C14 356mm aperture in solar H-a imaging.

Hi all,

Alessandro asking: "Have you tried the same etalon with C14?"

Yes, I have tried the same etalon with a C14 H-a telescope.

I still not fully satisfied by this setup performance and this is a reason I didn't publish the
photos taken with this set-up. While the telescope itself is really a piece of a real perfection
(Strehl factor is better than 0,985 and the optics is refractor-smooth) I still need to improve
two main H-a components DERF and etalon tuning method.

However I let you, solarchaters, see what the C14 ability is in H-a solar imaging. With the
improvements such a results will be ordinary for this set-up and at better seeing they will be
even better.

To see a native resolution and quality, right click on an interesting image and choose "open picture in a separate window".

Interesting and nice images. Can you describe or show pictures of the etalon tuning method you are using? Maybe people will have some suggestions that can help.

What etalon system do you use?
To improve local seeing, I would cover everything that is black:
- the rings: they catch heat and transmit it through the tube causing internal local air current (I have some at night on my C8 due to the cooling of the rail on the side...)
- the mount

After how many minutes does the closed C14 ota suffer of internal local air current?
Do you think a ota with Quartz primary and secondary mirror (low dispersion) could perform better than a pirex mirror?
Last question...have you tried one of your fantastic D-ERF with a standard Quark (with 4,3X telecentric lens) and then a Focal Reducer to reach a lower EFL.
In the next future I'd like to use my C14HD with my awesome Daystar Quark but the EFL is too high (F/D 47...) I'm asking if is it possible to use a FR like the Solar Spectrum research grade 0,4X (so the F/D it will be about 19...6735 mm of focal length)

I use a tempest cooling fan with my 8" HaT and I think it has a positive effect on stabilising things

These images were taken in 2016 with my best PST etalon in it's native collimating and refocusing optics.
With the LS35 the difference will be in a 1,75x larger FOV in the case of collimation beam work
and in about 4x in the case of telecentric system. The Pressure Tuning will also allow a unifrom
scanning of the imaging object from blue wing to red wing of H-a. But this work needs a fair amount
of time to be completely finished and I am afraid it will be finished when the sun will becomes
spotless for months. :(
