AR from July 12

Post by p_zetner »

Greetings Everyone.

Some views of the current AR at two different image scales.
(Please excuse the dust mote on the higher magnification image. I didn't flat-field this one and don't have access to Photoshop at the moment!)

Cheers, Peter.

Also, a very small AR near the W limb that seems to have disappeared.
I just discovered this as seeing started to seriously degrade so the imaging was pretty bad.
Cheers, Peter.

Peter:
Very very good images with your 8" scope, you are getting better shots every day.
I am anxious to start using my 10" f/20 Maksutov with an Aries ERF, but weather and compromises during weekends have not let me go to the rural observatory.
Have a nice and sunny weekend,
Eric.

Very good Peter! The flat field function in firecapture works great for close in shots like these, all you need is some plastic film big enough to cover the aperture of the scope.

Nice images, Peter

I think that the middle scale between the two shown will be the best compromise details/sharpness wise.

Thank you for your comments, everyone.

Eric: I hope you get the chance soon to try your 10" Mak. I look forward to seeing images from this instrument.

Stu: I'm totally impressed by the granulation shots with your 250mm RCT. Hope you have some luck with H alpha.

Mark: I flat-field the images involving my focal reducer because there is a hot spot present in the field of view. The field homogeneity without focal reduction is quite good but, of course, doesn't solve the dust bunny problem! Flats next time.

Valery: Good advice! This was a rather large structure. I'll have to experiment with slightly different FR design to get around f35 - f40 at the camera.

I'm back at my Photoshop equipped computer so can remove the obnoxious dust spot. Here is the result of the high magnification image with slightly different (better?) processing.

Cheers, Peter.
