Finally Some Sun - 4th December

Good evening everyone...

It appears to have been a full month since the last imaging session (Nov4th), and weather has been the main limiting factor.

This past Tuesday (Dec 4th) was the first day that was clear from sunrise to sunset so I couldn't pass on the chance to take a look and grab a few video streams. The seeing was poor, but a few tiny proms and the developing AR2729 were visible.

The first image is a composite of disk and limb exposures taken through the WO72/LS75FHa/B1200Ha setup:

The seeing conditions limited the detail in any longer focal length but I did grab a few that I'll post anyway  These are through the CR150 OTA fitted with both the Lunt LS80 and DSII etalons + B1800Ha blocker in a DS setup. The camera was set in 2x2 binned mode for the remaining image.

The eastern limb had a few features:

AR2729 was found just west of the meridian:

and the last is the small prom on the NW limb (really poor quality):

I hope I don't have to wait a month for the next session :?

Weather is always my limiting factor :) well done for at least seeing the Sun, I can't remember my last time I saw the Sun ;)
These are lovely images and I am glad you enjoyed yourself :bow
Any snow yet? the UK isn't remotely cold and seasonal yet :(

Nice work in spite of the difficult seeing, Brian. Glad you had some time imaging the sun.

Alexandra, Pedro, and Franco...

Thanks for your replies and feedback...always appreciated :bow

Alexandra we had an early start to winter in early November, with cold weather and snow pretty much the whole month. The temps reversed well above freezing last weekend and the rain pretty much cleared the snow away. Temps have dove back below freezing this week and only a light dusting of snow at the moment. The loss of the snow and cold weather has been a blessing for those still trying to harvest crop as the ground is frozen enough to get across the fields without leaving ruts or getting stuck, and the forecast is calling for dry weather which will help as well.

Just more wet, miserable weather here, Brian.

Nice images.

Stu and Derek...

Thanks for your feedback guys...always appreciated :bow

Hope the weather clears for you Stu and you can get a chance to view again. Mark, do you shut down completely when the sun is so low, or do you have another site to setup where you can catch the sun? Not a lot of activity during the minimums to encourage the extra work though :(

The setup I have whilst technically is portable requires a lot of break down, setup, breakdown time, and isn't really worth it. So, I go on a solar shutdown from november to february. I am hoping Mrs T is getting me one of these for Christmas https://www.firstlightoptics.com/skywat ... ripod.html , in which case gives a nice portable setup for my smaller scopes that I can take away with me when i'm on the boat that can be used for both solar and some night time views.

Looks like a good fix to be able to make a small portable scope. Imaging adds the complication of having power for equipment like laptops and filter power supplies...not impossible but more gear to move.

Best of luck getting a system put together.

Nice FD and zoom-in collection, despite the weather limiting factors.
