AR2729's Sunspot still has visible umbra | HA | Dec 7th 2018

Post by MalVeauX »

Heya,

The sunspot in AR2729 is rounding the limb, one of my favorite positions for a sunspot. I wish there were some large prominences of filaments involved around that active region, but it's pretty quiet. There are still visible umbra, day 3, which is great. It may last another day or two tops, but it will round the limb by tomorrow and most of it will be masked from view and as activity is dropping I doubt there will be any large prominences generated from the filaments surrounding the magnetic fields of the region, as they're tiny at this point and its all decaying. Still interesting to see! Not a lot of large prominences again, and a few minor filaments floating about. Included a bare spicule field to again show that there's always something in HA to see given enough resolution.

Very nice images Marty ...
It's always interesting to see the setup for the imaging session.
I think the second image is high resolution, is the first image also high resolution?

Maurits

Hello,

They're the same image resolution, just viewing the first one at its native resolution of pixel count per the screen and the 2nd image is a 1:1 crop. Same resolution. Just a different viewing scale.

Very best,
