Sun March 24th

Post by ffellah »

Hello all: I was thrilled this morning to be back for a quick imaging session after three very intense months dealing with my mother's fall and serious spinal injury. The seeing was not great, but good enough for me to get at least one decent image after completely missing AR2736

I am also happy to see that with the weather improving, many solarchatters are out imaging this weekend...

Clear skies to all !

Franco

Sorry to hear about your mothers fall Franco. It is an excellent image though - taken with your 90mm?

Thank you, Mark and Maurits, for your good wishes. The image was taken with the HaT scope, 0.7 reducer and a newly acquired Solar Spectrum filter. The seeing conditions were certainly not ideal for the HaT, but one image came out OK.

Mark: it is the SO 1.5 25mm <0.3a. It took about 3 months for delivery.

Franco,
Nice images from a sweet set-up. Can't wait to see what the HAT 0.3A combo can do on a good day. Hope your mom is doing much better.

Franco,

Great looking images and the equipment is fantastic. Steady skies will be the only requirement. I use a SO 1.5 like yours and am pleased with the performance. I am curious as to the temperature you operate it.

My best wishes to you Mom.

Phil

Hi Franco,

sorry to hear about your mother, whish here the best. It's good to see you'r imaging again. That is really a superb setup. If these images are taken under bad seeing, can't wait to see the good ones.

Rgrds,

Paul

Excellent images, Franco, a fine setup. May I suggest to shield your mount from direct sunlight, under the Sun it becomes hot, heat goes to the tube and images suffer, particularly in a SC tube. This was my experience when I used a Celestron CGEM.

My best wishes for your mother's recovery.

Thank you Phil, Paul, Raf and Maurits for your comments and kind words.

@Phil: for the time being the filter operates at 38 degrees as it came from the manufacturer. In the field it fluctuated between 37.9 and 38.1 degrees. Have you experimented with other settings ? Last Sunday was the very first time I tried the entire set up for imaging.

Franco,

38 degrees, interesting. Mine has a 55° spec. and I found that by increasing the temperature a few more degrees the field luminosity is more uniform. These filters hold the set temperature very well. From the looks of your images, in my opinion, you have it set correctly.
Thanks,

Phil
