Saturday Full Disks - 6th April
Saturday was a bit of a bonus day, clear skies weren't forecast, but they did come at a cost - lots of quickly scudding cumulus clouds, giving about 30 seconds to a minute before the next one arrived. Each cloud seemed to be surrounded by an invisible halo of worse seeing so was an interesting game of trying to time the exposure mid cloud.
I tried a double stack disk with the Lunt 50 on the SM90, but could never seem to nail the tuning and ended up with quite a few banded disks, this is about as good as I got. The prom count was good which is nice, with the decaying active region approaching the limb, and bright points that appear to mark the boundary of the coronal hole that was there.

Then onto the blue end of the spectrum, i've been doing a bit of a rework on my CaK filter, which i've been happy with, but have a ghost on the bottom half of the sun which requires a further tweak to shift. This disk is with the 100mm refractor at f10, and with the FLIR GH3 ICX814 camera I can get the full disk in one. Nice big images so be sure to double click in flickr and view full size. Doing this reveals nicely the spicule ring and proms, including a big 'spray' prom at 10 o'clock which marks the position of the active region that is rounding the limb today. The 100mm is starting to resolve spicules well, and on a day of better seeing this has some real promise.

Still got a few more images to process so hopefully get somemore up later...

Thanks Marty, thanks Maurits.
I also tried the area with the plage with the Na quark and the 100mm f10 scope. There were maybe a couple of tiny pores marking the position, but the seeing wasn't up to it. The image below is a stack of 4 images... The quality graph was not good!

Great pictures Mark, I really like the Cal-K Images. What was the elevation of the sun when you Imaged on the 6th April ?.

Re: Saturday Full Disks - 6th April
Thanks Stu, thanks Martin. I guess the sun was about 30 deg altitude at the time Martin.

It's interesting to note how crisp the Cal-K Images are compared to Ha at a low elevation.

Mark, nice set of images but more impressive is your perseverance and dedication to the cause. An inspiration to us all.
