I followed this spot through March and April taking some images while approaching the limb as AR12736 and then during the second and now the third apparition. It is surprising how well the spot survived for all this time, yesterday and today was even surrounded by several pores and tiny spots that were absent in the past rotation.
This is AR12736 approaching the W limb (image is mirrored) on March 23rd, the main leading spot is still followed by a trailing cluster of spots
The next day the group is just on the limb (image is reflected N-S)
Here is on April 9th, this time as AR12738. While on the farside the group lost almost all its minor spots but started developing some light bridges inside
On the 13th the spot was visible even to the naked eye as black dot close to the center of the disc
On the 15th the air was very still and allow me to capture my best image of AR12738
It reappeared on May 3rd as AR12740, here imaged in very turbulent air
I captured it again on the 6th while testing calcium imaging with my new Skywatcher 72ED, which proved to be a quite good scope, very sharp
and finally this morning, again in very turbulent air
together with the new AR12741
Will it survive another rotation ? Likely so, yesterday there were 9 minor spot around AR12740 and it produced a powerful M-class flare, so it is still very much active.
