C11 vs Dunn Solat Telescope IBIS or how close can we get to best professionals in high res H-a.

Post by Valery »

Hi all,

Browsing my older images taken with the first generation ARIES DERF, I have found a folder where I gazered many images in double stack.

I found a picture which is very similar in morphology to the image taken with Dunn Solar Telescope (+ IBIS imaging spectrograph + adaptive closed loop optics).

Here it is. The left photo is taken August 14 2016 with C11 280mm F/10 SCT equipped with the ARIES 295mm DERF and double staked etalons and Flea3 PGR camera at 31fps. Right - the image taken with 30" aperture DST.

About the DST: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_B ... _Telescope

Thanks for looking.

That's a pretty impressive comparison Valery.

Hi Valery,

Thanks for starting this thread. This comparison brings to mind the possibility of using an ARIES full-aperture D-ERF for solar research.

The meter class ground-based telescopes (e.g. 1.6m Good Solar Telescope and 1 m New Vacuum Solar Telescope) has brought observations of solar photosphere and chromosphere to reach a spatial resolution of 0.1 to 0.2 arcsec. This has enabled further advances in the study of Magnetic Flux ropes (MFRs).

Theoretically, a C11 fitted with an ARIES full-aperture D-ERF can reach a scale of 0.22 arc secs (I hope I have got this correct). So if the seeing condition is cooperating, the C11 with ARIES full-aperture D-ERF should be able to be used for observing MFRs. What do you think?

A C14 fitted with an ARIES full-aperture D-ERF should be able to do this job since it has a scale of 0.16 arc sec. Please help me to see if my computation is correct.

Alfred
