My spider senses must have been on high alert this morning, I woke suddenly just after 5am and spotted sunlight coming through the small gap in the curtains, quickly I got up and went downstairs to the rare sight of clear blue skies. I had the EQ6 setup (covered with a tarp) ready in the back yard for such a moment so was ready and running to hopefully get some sun. The skies change quick though and high cloud was scudding over so was already playing find the gap. I used the SM90 at prime focus with the FLIR GH3 ICX916M camera. In the time it took to take 3 x 500 frames the cloud was back with a vengeance, and looking to the west where our weather is coming from showed intimidating clouds, so decided to pack up. By the time I was back inside the rain had returned. Anyways, processing my images I was pleasantly surprised to find the seeing was quite good - if you click to view the images full size the spicules are well defined rather than the blurry ring that normally surrounds the sun for me. Check out the nice flame prom at 10 o'clock too. Got to be one of my quickest solar sessions ever but pleased to get it in given the run of bad weather we've been having lately.

Hope others are getting better luck with the weather than me!

Mark: glad you were able to take advantage of a short break in the weather. The disk came out really well, nice and even. Like you said, the spicules are very well defined, which is not easy to do with the SM90. Proms are also great when you enlarge the image to full size. It is raining here, so no imaging for me today.

Very nice FDs, Mark. It’s crazy how we have to react to the volatility of the British weather. What happened to the lazy days of summer?
Just watching the weather report on TV as I’m writing. Looks like more rain in the forecast. . Wait, there could be a break in the weather at 3pm. Must go and prepare.... wish me luck.
