Cycle 25 Bright Points
Keep an eye on the AIA images, I noticed earlier we have signs of cycle 25 in the northern hemisphere - bright point at 11 o'clock close to the limb, and also in the southern hemisphere 5 o'clock on the limb.
Looking at the solar irradiance charts the active regions / spot of the last couple of months may well be the final wind down of cycle 24
Looking at this graph at a closer scale below, if cycle 25 is indeed starting one would expect the solar irradiance to slowly increase as we see more of these bright points in higher latitudes.
These bright points should be difficult to see in single stack Ha at this stage, but easier in DS Ha, but looking in CaK wavelengths should easily be visible as plage. If you look at todays AIA1700 image and look carefully you can see where the bright points manifest as plage like brightening.
Keep your eyes peeled folks, cycle 25 is there if you know where to look!
Mark

Re: Cycle 25 Bright Points
Thanks, Mark for your detailed info.
I still do not see any cycle 25 evidences in my telescope in Ha.
When will we see even pores related to C25?

Re: Cycle 25 Bright Points
Hi Valery, if I can see it in my little 90mm your big gun should be able to get in close no problem - see here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=26278 or here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=26292
Looking at Solen quite a few of these cycle 25 bright points have already developed pores http://www.solen.info/solar/cycle25_spots.html
Just got to look hard for them

Re: Cycle 25 Bright Points
Let’s hope it really is the start of the activity uptick.
Thanks, Mark.

Re: Cycle 25 Bright Points
It is the start of the uptick, it's just the rate of uptick that we want to be more rapid!

It is Pedro.
Todays bright point, visible in all the AIA wavelengths. Solen is telling us it's not the only activity from cycle 25 on view. http://www.solen.info/solar/

Re: Cycle 25 Bright Points
Here's S6205 in the southern hemisphere today, easy with the DS90, infact really quite bright!

I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the bright points in the northern hemisphere get an 'S' designation, my money would be the one closest to the limb on the northern edge of the coronal hole.

Re: Cycle 25 Bright Points
More cycle 25 folks! Forum member Pepe from Barcelona in Spain caught S6208, an emerging flux region this morning viewtopic.php?f=4&t=26314 it's visible in all the usual AIA channels, but here is an image from the magnetogram:
There it is, visible in low down southern latitudes.
Remember folks, there is a blur between cycle 24 and 25. 24 doesn't just stop and 25 starts immediately, for a period both are contemporaneous with each other. This is what we are seeing now.
