Solar Analemma. This outstanding image from Alexandra Hart taken over a period of 4 years charts the midday position of the sun in the sky throughout the year. The north–south component of the analemma results from the change in the Sun's declination due to the tilt of Earth's axis of rotation. The east–west component results from the nonuniform rate of change of the Sun's right ascension, governed by combined effects of Earth's axial tilt and orbital eccentricity.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and looking forward to a great solar cycle 25!

Spicules and dark mottles in h alpha, June 28th

Post by LTHB » Sat Jun 29, 2019 11:43 pm

Finally an afternoon of blue skies, after weeks of milky haze and clouds, so an opportunity to try out a new filter and also a Photoshop tool I've never used before (following a hint I found in Alexandra‘s solar imaging tutorial), namely Shadows/Highlights.

Seeing was okay to nice, and after lots of fiddling I got one okay capture of spicules and dark mottles near the limb:

I hope for more blue skies!

A great couple of images Frank :bow :hamster: I am glad you found the shadows and highlights as it is great for bringing up the spicule layer and proms without destroying the surface features too much :)
