October 15th Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

I had a short session over my lunch on Tuesday, with hopes that the lovely morning sun would carry into the afternoon. Well, reasonable success at the sun but of course some cloud insisted on drifting through until I had to leave for the afternoon and I enjoyed full sun till later in the day :?

The first image is my standard disk/inverted limb composite through the LS80T/DSII/B1200Ha and PGR camera. The disk was pretty much barren save a filament on the NE quadrant, but the proms were very nice (as others have posted already):

The proms made me switch tot eh modded CR150/DSII/B1800Ha scope what I had finally re-assembled on the weekend, and set up with the ZWO174MM camera and 3x Telextender. Unfortunately, the cloudy phase of my day was occurring at this time and the conditions were not the best:

It was nice to get the modded scope tested out and capture some of the proms in higher resolution.

Below is a test image I made for my friend who has loaned me his 150mm, f7 Newtonian using the Quark combo and 3x Telextender to capture the prom from back on the 11th. He has a Quark but only smaller refractors and I suggested he look at using the Newtonian as a larger aperture for doing solar work. Looks promising...was hoping for more AR's to test it out on but that will come in time. I used the full aperture Daystar ERF and ZWO174MM camera for the test images :

I do like the tower prom, it looks most impressive on the full disc to see the scale of the thing :bow :bow
It's beautiful and sunny today, pity I am at work.

A lovely set, Brian. The long vertical prom is great, I have not imaged one like that yet. Excellent work !

Jack, Mark, Franco, and Alexandra...

My thanks for all of your replies and comments, they are always very much appreciated :bow

The long prom on the western limb was great to be able to pull out of the thin cloud, but I'll give credit to Lou for a far better image and Alan Friedman has a superb version on SapceWeather!!!

Nice images, Brian. Lovely proms and the standard disk on an inverted background is one of my favourite representations of the Ha Sun.

Nice ones, Brian. I'm sure glad there are some decent proms 'cause the disk leaves much to be desired.

Hi Brian,

Nice FD and Proms. The Newtonian-Quark configuration looks promising.

Thanks Alfred!

I did a little more work through the Newtonian on Saturday, and will return it to my friend next weekend. At least we know he can use it as an Ha scope for longer focal length imaging with his quark once he gets an observing site set up at his new home.
