C11 ARIES ERF + Lunt Calcium K-Line B1200 Wedge

Post by yltansg »

It was another cloudy morning followed by rain. The Sun's lower chromosphere didn' have any filaments. I am very glad to make some videos. The setup:

Image

ARIES D-ERF + C11 + Lunt Calcium K-Line B1200 wedge + x2 barlow + Basler Ace Asa1920 -155um mono camera.

An useful image from the 30 minute session. Because of the poor seeing I had to pump up the gain to the maximum and increased the exposure 7000µS. As a result I wasn't able to freeze the seeing. Hence I was quite happy to get this image.

Excellent shot Alfred considering the exposure and other limits you had to deal with. Well done :bow

Thanks Maurits and Brian. Even though the images are not great, these sessions in the inter-monsoon period provide good practice for me to get ready for an active Sun later.

Dear Alexandra,

It was imaged at full aperture. I am very impressed by the D-ERF + Lunt CAK wedge combination. It is able to produce a reasonable image in cloudy situation.

Do you suffer from the Jetstream?
I am starting to think it might be the problem that we suffer from and you and Val do not ;)

Dear Alexandra,

Jetstream is something we don't talk very much about in this region. May be we are just ignorant of it or its impact not that great on us. This article tells us vaguely that we are not spared.

Some of my videos show very poor and unsteady images, with running focus. However I am still able to get fair images with lucky imaging during stacking with AS!3.

Alfred,

If you still don't own a SSM, you need to buy it and install a plugin to use it with the FireCaptue.

Possibly, you need more transparent CaK filter (they are different) or even to use Quark CaK which, I have heard, are more
transparent than CaK by Lunt. Aso, a camera must be maximally sensitive at this wave length, lowest noise and maximally speedy.
May be ASI290MM is a right choice, but I am not sure. Pint Gray Research cameras are known to have independent high quality
power source and this makes their cameras much less noisy.

Summarize: for good results in CaK one need all components best of the best.

The ASI178MM is more sensitive in the blue than the 290MM, so that could be a good choice for CaK imaging.
