June 14th - Ha trails
Hello everyone...
This past Sunday offered one of the nicest solar days in ages...and an early start allowed me to run images through various scopes.
The first is a full disk Ha image taken through the LS80T/DSII/B1800Ha solar scope: It was great to see AR2765 still hanging out on the SW limb as well as an assortment of small filaments and some nice proms. The fist image is AR2675 through the CR150/DSII/B1800Ha modded scope and ZWO174MM camera at prime focus (0.8"/pixel) tuned to Ha and the second is with no pressure in the pressure tuner to show the deep red continuum as well: As I scanned across the disk there were several small spot and filaments, wit this looking the most interesting: I added a 2x tele-extender to the optical train to bump the resolution up to 0.4"/pixel in this 3 frame mosaic: This image shows the small region in greater detail: The final image in this set was taken through the modded C9.25HD/PST etalon/B1800Ha blocker with a full aperture ERF and a Baader 35nm pre-filter mounted ahead of the PST etalon. This setup has a resolution of 0.4"/pixel as well, and no additional optics to boost the focal length. The biggest advantage was the extra light allowing very short exposures. This is probably the first time this scope has produced any images worth sharing...3 frame mosaic below: I have yet to try this with the tele-extenders or telecentric...just need another day of decent seeing and lots of time!
There are a few more disk images to process as well as lots of proms shots...will post as time permits.
Before closing the observatory up for lunch, I slewed the scope to Venus and caught this pic through the 150mm, f8 iStar OTA with the ZWO174mm camera (no filters). Venus was 16 deg west of the sun with a thin 4% illuminated crescent: That's all I have ready at the moment...hope you like them, and drop a note as to which optical set-up you think is delivering the best views.
Take care everyone,
Brian

Hard to tell Brian .I think the 150 is good .It will require exceptional seeing to get the most from the larger scope.VENUS is today’s pick for me.

They're lovely images Derek! Maybe the PST mod with the C9 is the way to go.

Thanks so much for the effort with excellent results.
Indeed the Venus image with such a fine crescent is my favourite of the day - well done Brian...

Re: June 14th - Ha trails
Thanks everyone for all for the comments and feedback
I am glad to see some reasonable results out of the C9.25, though the seeing is going to be the deciding factor...I'm not clearing out the CR-150 mod any time soon The SSM still needs to be set up for routine use too. Even in this session it rarely dropped below 2.
I was happy to see Venus too...a brilliant white sliver against the blue sky. Found by GOTO, but I have found it in the past without. Getting lazy in my old age

Looks like a productive session, Brian.
And nice job on the Venus image. Can be a serious pain to find during the day.

Hi Brian,
All HA images look great, especially the C9 + PST etalon. You have a good PST etalon!!
BTW nice shot of Venus. It is near Zenith for us at about 9 am in the morning.
