August 13 2020 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Observations taken between 10:00am-10:30am EDT local time ( US ). Skies mostly clear, temp is 77F. Seeing is decent.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see 4 plage/AR areas on the Sun today. First is the easy AR12770 in the NW. I can see no filament within it's bright plage today. AR12769 is on the NW limb and I cannot make sight of it. I see three other plages in the SE. The first is AR12771. There is another located to the SE of it that is barely visible and also another to it's south. 4 prominence groups are visible. A large fairly bright furry hedgerow prom in the NW, a dim one on the limb in the NE and a faint forest of proms in the SE. A loop prom is visible faintly on the SE limb. To the north and northeast of AR 12770 I can see two small but not difficult filaments. Spicule mottling covers disc. All observations made in double-stack.

Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair solar wedge. 24x, 54x ( WL )
I can see the faculae components to all the plages/ARs seen in Ha including AR12770 and AR12771 and I can also see the faculae to AR12769 at the NW limb. The faculae to a yet unnamed AR, SE of AR12771 shows considerable detail. I can see a small spot in AR12771 and it is now the only spot on the disc since the one in AR12770 has disappeared. Fine granulation visible across disc.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Thanks for the report James, good to know what is going on. Looks like autumn is here in the UK now and its attendant cloud and rain...

A great observing session James, thanks for the info :hamster:

We have had high humidity, cloud and thunderstorms all week but it might be breaking now for the weekend.

Mark and Alexandra, Good luck 🍀 on finding clear skies today. I myself may not get around to solar today. My dad is at the hospital today getting a heart pacemaker put in. If I do get to observe it will be later this evening barring the likely fact of building clouds blocking the sun.

Thank you. He is so weak lately. Heart rate is down to 30bpm at night and 55bpm by day. He passes out sometimes and is often dizzy. He is not getting enough blood 🩸 to the brain 🧠 and therefore not enough oxygen. Thanks for all of your prayers 🙏🏻
