August 19 2020 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Observations are done between 10:30am and 12:10pm EDT local time ( US ). The temp at 11:00am is 73F and the sky is partly cloudy. Seeing is decent this late morning.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can easily see the now named northernmost AR ( AR12772 ). AR12771 to the south of it is barely visible as a mere disturbance in the chromosphere. I cannot detect the one to the east at all. I can barely detect a plage just inward of the SE limb. I see three prominences on the solar limb today. One in the NE looks like a McDonald's arch. I see a single tiny bright one on the NW limb. GONG Cerro Tololo shows a couple of larger fainter ones very close by but I cannot pick them up visually. The SE limb shows a faint prom that looks like a tongue of fire. I can see only one filament on the disc today. A small one just above the south polar region oriented N-S. Spicule mottling visible across disc. Contrast is fair.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 62.5x ( WL )
In AR12772 I can see two small sunspots and two pores. I can faintly make out the surrounding faculae. I can also make out without difficulty some faculae on the SE limb. Fine granulation can be seen across the solar disc.

Carpe Diem!

James
