Hi Stu,Carbon60 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 8:03 pmGiven the global reach of Solarchat it will be impossible to select a time that suits everyone in all regions without someone staying up very late or getting up very early.
For this one it looks like the participants are from the North/South American & European continents , so morning on the West Coast US, early afternoon East Coast US and early evening Europe could work. How about 6:00pm UTC on Sunday? There’s a little complication this Sunday as our clocks in Europe ‘fall back’ from summertime time, but in the US this doesn’t happen until November 1st, but I’m sure we can all deal with this accordingly. The Zoom invitation should take account of this anyhow, hopefully.
Anyhow, 6:00pm UK (which will also be 6:00 pm UTC on Sunday with the clock change) would be my proposal.
Stu.
We in México do change to Wintertime on Sunday 25 at 02:00 hours. So what time would 6 pm UK time be in México ?
As you in UK also change to Wintertime the difference with UK and Mexico is 6 hours and is it correct to say it is 12:00 hours in México ?

While Frankfurt, Madrid and Paris are 7 hours ahead, London is ony 6 hours ahead in the same way as Lisbon ...

Thanks and answered my question myself

Re: Zoom Meeting - Any Interest
If you are struggling with time here is a useful site which tells you the time in Greenwich Mean time, this is the same time as Universal time used by astronomers. If you look at the clock, then look at your time you can work out the difference (or use the converter tool).
Or have this website open and wait till the clock strikes 18:00

Alexandra...
Posting the link will save having to collect e-mails and sent invites, so that will make it easy.
After the first session we will all have a better idea of what if anything, needs to be tweaked.
Looking forward to Sunday!

Re: Zoom Meeting - Any Interest
Can we be clear what to expect from just turning up on Charlie Bates Facebook page at the relevant time?
Will it be sound only? Sound, video and pictures, where the contributors have their own webcams?
Will having downloaded Zoom beforehand offer a better experience even if we don't actively participate?
I have zero experience of Zoom. Nor of live FB meetings for that matter.
How long is this Zoom meeting likely to last?
Thanks to all concerned.

Re: Zoom Meeting - Any Interest
The Zoom platform allows live video and audio with each participant who has it enabled...basically like a conference table with each person having a small window with their camera feed showing. It can be a simple discussion between participants or there is the ability to share your desktop if the session is setup or sharing is allowed. When you share your desktop it becomes the main background and you can show images, videos, live telescope camera feed, etc. It will take a session or two to figure it all out.
If you have a webcam and microphone setup (laptop or smart phone have this already in place), and once you install the Zoom app there are instructions on setting both the camera and mic up. I can't speak to using a phone, but have been in meetings where participants do so.
It is also possible to mute the mic if you have a noisy background (barking dog, kids, etc) so as not to interrupt the discussion, and the video can be shut off if you wish as well and quickly turn on again if you want to be seen.
That's a quick overview of what to expect...there is also a discussion area available where you can type questions/comments if you do not have a mic working or want to message something to all or one person via keyboard.

Re: Zoom Meeting - Any Interest
I think if you joined Zoom even if you muted your microphone and video feed you would enjoy it more. Then if you wanted to chat you can just unmute. On Facebook I think you would only be able to watch and listen, you won't be able to contribute.
Please don't be scared of Zoom, we are all going to be friends, it will be like having a chat at the pub. I would recommend going to the Zoom site and joining as a free member. Then in your profile if you could put your first name in and maybe perhaps put your solarchat name in the surname it would help everyone recognise who you are. Sometimes we only know you by your solarchat name. It isn't compulsory so don't fret if you can't do it.
It would be nice to get to know you all, and bring a drink, your breakfast juice, your cup of coffee, your pint of beer depending where you are in the world.
When you click the Zoom link everything will happen automatically. Remember to 'Join with Audio' and 'Join with video' so you can hear and see. Then if you feel shy if you hover over the bottom left of the window you will see a picture of a microphone and video, if you click it you can mute yourself etc.
We can chat about the weather, the sun, software, imaging problems, your dog, your cat, autumn colours, wildlife you have seen, just about anything
you would if we met in person
let's have fun. I am sure if Stephen is on the chat Star Trek will come up somewhere
Sure Rainer, if they have an interest in the Sun etc they can come too as long as you trust them

Rusted, you can leave whenever you want
I'm not sure how long it will be, it could last 5 minutes or an hour and half. Hopefully not for hours
Like when you are at the pub, you can take your leave if you have to go

Thanks, Brian and Alexandra, but I shall definitely be practising "remote social distancing" for this round.
BTW: My research discovered that Stephen has a YouTube presence.
Perhaps the meeting will be televised after the event?
