October 24 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 11:32am to 12:46pm EDT local time ( US ). Skies are partly cloudy with just above average seeing. Temp is 72F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60DS 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see the plage of AR12776 easily as it is nearing the southwestern limb. I can see two components to the plage and a filament on it's northern edge north of the visible spot. I can see a second plage on the north-central disc. I also see lighter patches of plage within the disturbed area east of the brighter plage. I see two filaments within the disturbance. I can see all the prominences seen in the GONG image. The largest being a close double on the SE limb. One on the NE limb is bright at the base with what looks like pale smoke trailing southward. Best seen in single-stack. The mottles are of moderate contrast today.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see the spot of AR12776 nearing the south-western limb easily. The Wilson Effect is starting to show. The umbra is dark surrounded by a nice penumbra. I see no pores today. I can see the faculae to AR12776 as well. I see one tiny sunspot in the north-central plage. Granulation is easy today. I looked for polar faculae but could not see them. Though seeing is good it's not quite as good as it was yesterday.

All while listening to Keiko Matsui.

Carpe Lumen

Nice to see your report James...the activity from Friday continues!!!

A few breaks in the cloud here yesterday but nothing long enough to justify trying anything myself.

Lovely to hear the report :hamster: I'll have to look up this music too :) We love Enya and enjoyed 2002 but found the music a little slow compared to Enya. Beautiful videos of the Sun though :)

Montana,
Enya has been among my favorites for years. Since at least 1991. Try Loreena McKennit too. I do very little pop or modern country music. I veer towards classical, jazz and new age music most of the time. I also do folk, bluegrass and some alternative.

No sun for me today. Cloudy rainy skies.
