1st Solar-light of the REVOLUTION R2 Imager system

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Hello folks,
Its' been quite a busy day and evening getting much imaging done in beautiful-weather here in S.E.England, as well as catching-up on some snags.
Still more snags to get sorted - weather permitting.

Anyhow other than a couple of test-images by the usual methods, where the Ha prom images requires further adjustment of the Etalon for proms.
+++
The newbie on the block here, is a REVOLUTION R2 IMAGER system, which is basically a very-low light camera c/w various lenses and filters,
as well as with the U.S. version - a rechargeable battery pack (not available for air-freight elsewhere)... 12-volts is required.

For Solar use, the same applies as to Eye-pieces for Energy Rejection Filters of whichever sort including Bader film types.

Also has it's own LCD monitor and supplied with a recording-link for a computer. Colour or mono capable. Also independent recording is available as an optional extra.

Fits in to 1.25" eye-piece holder with very little focusing of the scope required.

Fitting on a tripod as per a camera's fit for both the camera and the monitor.

Amazingly it can see stars, planets (Mars etc.) immediately after Sun-set, without any "eye-adaption" and long before "Astro-darkness" as tests last-night proved. Although I haven't yet tried any Deep Sky imaging with it, I gather even Nebula, etc., etc., is capable.

So today I tried it on the ORION ED80T-CF + Hershel Wedge, where I was surprised that AR2781 came through to it's own screen - very well too...

This would be a very useful item for those who do Public Outreach, School presentations etc., as eyes on EP's is eliminated of any risk.

Have not yet tried on Ha and Cal-K scopes yet, because either a Pesky/High Tree, or the Sun was diving too low for further trials.

One very interesting feature is the remote-controlled "ZOOM" Lens and the capability to control the camera from the monitor position with ZOOM, TILT & PAN facilities. Very useful and that also applies when the scope is fitted into a suitable telescope...

Attached here, are some images of this monitor operating alongside the pc-monitor.

Further details available on the internet as:- "REVOLUTION R2 IMAGER"

It can also be used for other purposes, including SECURITY CCTV and even a baby-monitor (without sound though) !!!

Price is very reasonable too and unlikely to break the bank either...

Cheers
Terry

Terry,
That looks like a really useful piece of equipment there. I do agree it would be great for outreach or group viewing event. Keep me posted on how it does in Ha and CaK. It may make CaK visually usable!

Thanks Gents.
Wilco James - possibly later today if I can get back in time.

I've got various ideas Jochen on the best way to use it, but it's overall capability for day and nights is quite fantastic - as my initial test have proved.

"Productive" Mark, oh yes it's certainly adding to the work-load and keeping me very busy in these sad times outside of my home..

CLEAR SKIES
Terry

Thank you very much George for your comment and the very useful links.

I know that our James is interested in this product and from the brief read of the links, it certainly should perform well with Cak and Ha.

Although the weather is fairly clear here today, unfortunately I must do other things, but will certainly try-out again next opportunity and post the results here..

Best Wishes and CLEAR SKIES
Regards
Terry
