November 7th - Ha

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

Saturday was looking to be a great opportunity to observe and image the new AR, and early on everything looked good. Before I finished off the Ha set of images I was working on, a thick bank of cirrus clouds rolled in and stayed until dark. Even so, AR2781 looked amazing and AR2780 added to the show. An added bonus was that the weather has taken a very unseasonable warming trend the past week and into the week coming...daytime highs this weekend have been in the low 20's C...observing in short sleeves in November :? Mother nature will get even though

The full disk Ha image below was taken through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope and an ASI174MM camera. This is a composite of separate limb (inverted) and disk images:

AR2781 covers a lot of solar real estate...with the 2.7x telecentric on the modded CR-150/DSII/B1800Ha scope the outer tendrils of the AR spread out past the 174 chip edges. Below is a mosaic of approximately 9 frames to get the whole thing in view ;)

I took a series of images with the pressure tuner adjusted off the centre band and have them assembled below. The upper left corner image has the pressure reduced into the Red Wing, and the upper right is the on-band image. The lower pair of images were taken with increasing pressure from the centre band...the lower had the PT slightly increased and the lower right had significantly more pressure to get this view. The pressure tuner was adjusted by hand, no the remote unit with the digital pressure readout, so I do not have any estimate of how much the pressure was changed to get the views:

AR2780 did not show near the detail, but still a nice target:

There were not large many proms, but the string of filaments in the NW lead to the one larger prom on the NW limb;

The final set of Ha images I managed to get before the clouds shut me down was using the 5x Powermate on the modded cope and the ASI1600MM to get the big AR onto the chip. The seeing was holding on so the long focal length worked well:

That is all for the Saturday session.

Sunday stayed clear with good seeing, so I hope to have the full set of Ha, CaK, and WL images ready to post soon.

Brian

Hi Brian,

Excellent images.

In the image Into the Blue you see more Ellerman Bombs then In the Blue Wing or was it the time difference betwenn both adjustments ?

Very nice work Brian. I love the detail in your work. Just look how AR12781 has the area disturbed around those spots!

Rainer and James...

Thanks for your comments on the images :bow

Rainer...the time of the red wing image and the first blue wing image was approx 6 mins, and 1 min between the fist and last blue wing image. The on-band shot was actually from another series timed approx 4 mins after the last blue wind image.

A great set, Brian, I like your blue and red wings experiments. The close ups came out great, this is an AR that keeps on giving.

Franco, Eric, and Alexandra...

Thanks for your comments on the image set...always very much appreciated :bow

The warm temps won't last much longer, but so far no one is complaining  It has helped with corn harvest and fall fertilizer application, so work is staying busy.
