Tuesday Sun 12th Jan. 2021
A beautiful blue sky morning and plenty of sunshine, although the seeing conditions were very marginal for close-up views. Nevertheless I had a go with the 150 mm mod on a couple of proms and a magnetically disturbed region. The FD in Ca II K was straightforward enough on a 72mm scope fitted with a B1800 Lunt module and a couple of additional filters (Baader K-Line and Omega).
First up are the Ca II K disks in mono and colour.

These were the two main proms on show in Ha. This is where the seeing conditions made it very difficult to obtain good, stable, views.

Finally, a close view of the magnetically disturbed region. Again, the seeing conditions really limited my ability to get a nice sharp image, so it looks a bit fuzzy. You have to get what you can

Even with no perfect conditions, the photos are very good Stu! I like very much the close up one.

Hi Stu, glad you got some clear-ish skies today after all the heavy rain that swept across the UK.
Excellent captures and the proms are well-good for a quiet Sun
Cheers

Good results Stu! Glad you got some sunshine. Using the 150 this time of year is brave but they came out surprisingly well.

Re: Tuesday Sun 12th Jan. 2021
Interesting to see the intense patches of plage in the CaK, these could be active regions which will form over the next couple of weeks, hopefully big by their next pass round
The close ups of the proms are exceptional
Very busy couple of days at work here

Not sure when we’ll see the Sun again here. The forecast isn’t looking promising.
