March 30 2021 Observations. Proms Rule!!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 10:26am until 11:40am EDT local time. Skies are clear. Seeing a bit below average. The temperature is 59F.

Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x and 64x ( Ha )
The first thing I notice is a massive prominence on the NW limb. It rises and then trails southward looking like a wind-blown bonfire! I can see a fair amount of detail within it. Striations, voids-bubbles?. It looks delicate in form. Very beautiful. I see a brighter group of 4 proms on the SW limb and a tall thin " spike " prom on the eastern limb. The NE limb has a single small semi-pyramid shaped prom with a dark void beneath it. Proms rule the Sun today!

I can see two plages. AR12811 nearing the NW limb and AR12812 following NE of it. I see a dark filament west of AR12811 at the limb. Below the " King Bonfire " prominence. I also see a filament in the NE near the small pyramid shaped prom. I see a scattering of small filaments in the south. Two of these are easy.

The mottles are easy and I can see the spicule layer on the limb.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 27.5x and 55x ( WL )
I can see the faculae to both AR12811 and 12812. The faculae to AR12811 shows decent detail. I notice one bright " dot " of facula out by itself on the systems SW edge.

I see only one spot today. It's small and located in the faculae of AR12812.

Granulation can be seen today.

Imaging is yet to come!

Carpe Diem!!

James
