Sun With the Travelling Kit - 15th April
Had a few days away on the boat, and while the weather has been nice, the sunny bits didn't necessarily correspond with when I was able to image, till this morning... I woke to clear blue skies and a heavy frost so was out an observing by 7.30am. I was using the travelling kit - the Solarquest mount on the EQ6 tripod and a range of small scopes.
I started off with the CaK full disk, 40mm f20 and straight away it was apparent seeing was the best I have seen for some considerable time.

Next up and the Skywatcher ED80 on the above mount, and with the Airylab telecentric and the home brew CaK filter the weight really was pushing it, and had to improvise with some weights to balance the tube longitudinally. The seeing was eerily still (out in the countryside here!) and I wished I could have used bigger scopes (need a bigger travelling kit!). These taken at 60mm f40 with the IMX174 camera.

Next up, a quick whizz with the Quark on the ED80 (at 80mm) with the IMX174 again, feels like i'm rusty with my Ha shots at the moment

I must have been well behaved as I convinced Mrs T we should go back again on saturday to sunday - other commitments between then though,,, Weather forecast remains positive at the moment so hoping I can get more views in on the days ahead...
Hope you like!
Mark

Re: Sun With the Travelling Kit - 15th April
Indeed Mark, those CaK images show so very-well the spots of AR2814 this morning.
The colouring of both the CaK and Ha images are brilliant and certainly the cold-morning start does show seeing-improvements before later-on - often...
Well done Mark
Regards
Terry

Re: Sun With the Travelling Kit - 15th April
I know, that was my first thought this morning. The current travelling kit won't hold the HaT, I need a more heavy duty, but equally compact, travelling kit... It'll be a chat with Rupert, but the CFO won't be impressed. I need to start selling some schizzle on Ebay to offset the damage...

Sun observing and navigating: two great activities combined...your images are excellent, Mark. It must be very relaxing doing both while immersed in nature.

Nice shots, Mark. That’s a good looking AR especially in Ca. What a wonderful feeling when the seeing cooperates.
Cheers.

Really sharp images from the portable kit Mark
The small apertures can still perform well in the right hands, under good conditions!

Thanks everyone, here's a shot of me 'tinkering' with the kit a few days after these images were taken.
