April 19 2021 Observations. Visual and Imaging.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 11:00am until 12:08pm EDT local time ( US ). Partly cloudy skies. The seeing is average to a bit below. the temperature is 59F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x, 32x, 40x and 50x ( Ha )
I can see 5 plages on the Sun today. I can see the plages of AR12814 and AR12815 approaching the SW limb. They are not especially bright. Two yet unnumbered plages are in the NW. A bight one followed by a fainter one. The SE shows a bright plage ( AR12816 ) with embedded spots. Wait...I faintly see a sixth possible plage very close to the SE limb. Just a small slightly lightened area. SDO shows activity there, it's practically invisible on GONG.

I see some nice filaments in the SE. A long filaprom with a filament to it's NE and a small one to the NW. The north central part of the disc shows two easy large filaments side by side.

Prominences are there to be seen too. I can see all but the very faintest shown on the GONG image including the swell filaprom in the SE. A pair above it and a decent one in the NE limb. I also see a couple on the NW and SW limb.

And I can see the limb spicule layer, even in double stack with the SMII60! The mottles stand out in good contrast too.

Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 21.5x and 43x ( WL )
The NW plage has a nice group of spots and pores today. The SE plage ( AR12816 ) has a nice group too. The two " terminal " spots both have visible umbra-penumbra with a close look. I can see the faculae to the departing AR12814-15 in the SW.

I can see the granulation.

Oh yeah, I can see a spot almost on the SE limb where the SDO shows an emerging active region.

Music today is:
Antonio Vivaldi: The Four Seasons played by Anne Akiko Meyers.
Mater Eucharistae by the Dominican Sisters of Mary.

I did some imaging in white light today using the Orion70 and the AT72EDII and 540nm green continuum filter.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Well-good captures James and now with AR2717 in the N.W. and the newbie as (AR2818) at last a plethora of spots to choose from.
Hopefully tomorrow if time and the clouds allow, I might get some images as the observatory is now operational again after a few mods...

Cheers
Terry
