April 23 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 11:00am until Noon EDT local time ( US ). Skies are mostly cloudy with clouds thickening through the session. Rain is approaching. Seeing is fair. The temperature is 54F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( WL )
I can see three plages on the solar disc today. AR12816 in the SW quadrant and AR12818 in the SE quadrant. AR12816 has a filament just to it's south and a visible spot in it's SE section. The plage is oriented SE-NW. AR12818 has a visible spot just north of it's plage and a thin filament in it's eastern extremities that is not hard to see. I can see a number of filaments to the south and southwest of AR12818. A dark long one far south with a smattering of smaller ones north of it. The third plage is in the NNW just across the NLM and is faint. I can see a single filament in the NW near the limb.

I see a nice fairly large bright prominence on the SE limb. It has a dark spot in it's lower northern area. I also see 4 smaller prominences on the NW limb.

The mottles are visible without difficulty today.

Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 27.5x and 55x ( WL )
I can see a smattering of spots associated with AR12816. I can see two easily with about 4 others with greater difficulty. The largest SE spot sports a small penumbra. AR12818 shows a single well developed spot complete with umbra and penumbra. The new area to the north displays a single small spot visually though SDO shows a small pore to it's NNE.

I can see no faculae today and the granulation is hard to see through the thin veil of high clouds.

Carpe Diem!

James

Hi James,

Not much on today apart from the large sharks fin prom.

The dark hole was quiet large and pronounced for me with other dark features.

Plenty of fine details in the body.

There was a little barb under the upright side for me to start with.

A little hooked prom nearby for me.

The proms on the other side were there for me but not very bright.

Cheers. Andrew.

Glad you got a view in James. Very thick haze here today is hindering things, hoping for better tomorrow...

Mark,
I am totally clouded out today and tomorrow looks terribly busy for me. Good luck tomorrow.

James
