April 26 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time 10:28am until Noon EDT local time ( US ). Skies are clear, Seeing is above average. The temperature is 66F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x 32x and 50x ( Ha )
I can see 4 plages. AR12816 in the SW, AR12819 in the NW and the plage of AR12818-20 just west of the LCM and the new plage of AR12821 close by to it's west. That is actually a total of five active regions. I can see a thin filament in AR12819. The AR12818-20-21 system is a complex and closely entwined system. It resembles a long single broken plage intertwined between 5 spots arranged in a pattern reminiscent of the stars constellation Cassiopeia. The brightest part by a slight margin is between two spots in AR12821. I can see two filaments. One in AR12818 and the other looks like it is bridging AR12818 and AR12820. It's hard to tell where one active region ends and the other begins!

I see a lot of filaments in the southern hemisphere. A big easy one near the SE limb ans another big but fainter one in the far south. I see a number of small filaments strung between the large AR complex and the large southern filament going NE-SW south of AR12816. The northern hemisphere is nearly void of filaments.

In single stack I can see all the prominences shown in the GONG Cerro Tololo image. The one in the NE shows nice vertical striations within it. I can also see some detail in the prom in the NW.

I can see the spicule layer on the limb at 50x!

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x, 62.5x and 100x ( WL )
I can see close to every spot and pore in the large triple AR complex of AR12818-20-21. I counted 33. The 5 largest spots all show umbra/penumbra structure. I cannot see the faculae however since it is well away from the darkening of the limb. I can see the faculae to AR12816 in the SW and AR12819 in the NW. The SDO HMI continuum image shows a very tiny pore in AR12819 but even at 100x I could not see it. If I would have had time I would have set up the C102 with the wedge and tried again.

I can see the solar granulation today without difficulty.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Thanks vm James.
The AR12818-20-21complex_SDOHMIc_4-26-21.gif, is much the same as my processed-image and with now imppg - recently posted.
