May 6 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 11:11am until 12:30pm EDT local time ( US ). The skies are mostly clear. The seeing is below average. The temperature is 61F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x and 33x ( Ha )
I can see three filaments easily in the far SW. One ends at a small prom on the limb indicating a possible filaprom. It's beyond me visually being able to see. I also see a couple of filaments in the NE and another in the SW.

I can see proms on the NE, NW, and SW limb. I strongly suspect an AR on the NE limb judging by the low lying bright proms located there. The three in the NW look nice too. Two pointed topped ones with the center one leaning south a bit and an irregular one to the south. The SE ones are 4. A laid-over one is the northernmost of these and a hedgerow of three with the southernmost one probably a filaprom. GONG CT indicates this is so.

I can see two plages. One easy one in the SE that is in three sections and a small one SW of the disc center.

The mottles are easily seen today.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
The disc shows little detail today. I can see a single faculae in the SE marking an AR plage seen there in Ha. No spots or pores seen. Granulation is weak but barely visible.

All while listening to the beautiful Olga Peretyatko. Arabesque album.

Carpe Lumen!

James

I would say you are right about an AR being on the eastern limb, especially as Jozef witnessed an eruptive prom there too. In the coming days will reveal all, never a dull moment. Thanks for the report James :hamster:

The Sun is certainly never dull. Never static. Always changing. That's the greatest thing concerning solar observing and imaging.

Thanks again James for your observations and also your patience in setting-up and putting away the gear - too.
Let's hope there is more action "round the bend." The next 24-hours should start to show all...

Hey James, I've just opened you two PM's and thanks vm.
I've tried to return a PM to you, but as previously it is too difficult for more grey-matter to find a way.

So best to send ordinary emails - if need be, as much quicker and easier.

Thanks vm
Regards
Terry

James, I hope you don't have as much "grey-matter" as I... :o

Those PM's were a couple of weeks old, so it's down to me being a tad busy and not seeing the PM tab...

Cheers
Terry

Terry,
I have been really busy too. That's why I haven't used the SMII90 lately or imaged. I know how you feel.

Thanks for the report James, and nice to see pictures of the scopes. Just grey, cloud and rain for me this weekend, hoping I can get something in the early mornings before I go to work.

Hi James,

Thanks for your report. I also started some visual recordings, but I am going to make sketches. I will have to practise a bit, as I have never really done it. I made a template in Microsoft Word, and have got an array of pencils to do this. May have to use some colour to distinguish the various solar features. I use a 60mm guidescope stopped down to 32mm and a Quark Chromosphere, mounted on a Vixen polarie tracker set for solar tracker, and a DIY solar finder, and a celestron 40mm eyepiece. Its not bad, and can set up anywhere, anytime within minutes.

Magnus

Sketching is an excellent way to record what you see if you have the skill and time to do it. I eagerly await your results. Though imaging is really nice I do really like seeing visual sessions here. There is not enough of them.
