May 10 2021 Observations
Session time is 10:58am until 12.02pm EDT local time ( US ). The skies are mostly cloudy. The seeing is decent. The temperature is 72F. I am back home in Edneyville NC today.
Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 64x, 100x and 133x ( Ha )
I can see two easy plages today. AR12822 in the NE shows spots amid a tattered plage. No sign of flare activity. I can see a couple of thin filaments associated with it. Well to it's south I see another active region plage that has an easy spot in it's SE region. Well to the west of the SE plage I see what is now just a mere disturbance but it's large in size, the decaying remains of a plage.
I can see a smattering of filaments in the south and a couple in the north but nothing of any real significance.
The prominences look good. I can see as many in single stack as the GONG images show, One in the SW looks good and shows fine detail. It looks somewhat like a misshapen horses head looking north. It even has a sideways oriented eye. A void or bubble within it. There is also a lot of filamentary details within it. The spicule layer on the limb looked nice too and the individual spicules could be seen, especially the taller macro-spicules. 100x did wonderfully. I tried 133x but it was a bit much for the seeing conditions.
The mottles were of good contrast and easily seen covering the solar disc.
Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and Baader 540nm filter. 55x and 100x ( WL )
I can see 13 spots/pores in AR12822. The two largest spots have incomplete penumbrae oriented in the same direction. SDO images show this easily too. While I do get a good view the 4K SDO imagery still out resolves me a bit.
The second active region in the SE shows 7 spots/pores to my telescopic eye. The large one shows some penumbra and a large elongated umbra. A tiny pore is close by and takes moments of good seeing to see. To the northwest is a cluster of pores. Only one of these may be considered a small spot. SDO HMI imagery here out resolves me a bit revealing just a little bit more than I can see.
I see no faculae on the disc at all. Granulation is visible.
All while listening to Ryan Farish, Spectrum.
Carpe Lumen!
James
Hopefully I can get back to imaging soon.

Re: May 10 2021 Observations
James has got the correct combination of the right music and Solar viewing/imaging, which even with me having a back-breaking and painful day finishing-off the final wiring for the Uninterruptable Power Supply in the observatory, crawling around at very low-levels, but the classical-music certainly dampened-down my not so nice-language at times !!
(I bet I won't have a power-failure again compared to twice this year. So just got to install the house-generator as well next)...
Well done James for your efforts in providing the valuable updates.
Thanks
Terry

James, a nice report and music.
I usually hear classic music when imaging.
Best regards.
Eric.

Re: May 10 2021 Observations
Mark, Terry and Eric,
Music always enlightens the mood for solar observing. With me it is usually classical, soft Jazz or new age music. I rarely drink alcohol during observing sessions. It's usually coffee since solar generally takes place in the morning or early afternoon.

That's natural music! I do sometimes leave the stereo off and listen to the birds as well.
So far today is not looking good. Cloudy.
