AR12822 in Ha on May 11
The AR12822 is becoming more beautiful by the day. I am experimenting a new sharpening technique, what do you guys think?
Minh.

It looks fabulous
I would love to see a positive version though, I bet it would be superb

There you go. If you didn't say I wouldn't know positive image can have such contrast. Think I'll stick with positive from now on. The prominences is harder to pull out without bringing out the noise though.

Hi Minh,
Its' well-good to see both versions as coloured and positive, as well as negatives too. The detail so often seems to change between those.
Very well captured and processed.
Thanks for sharing

Re: AR12822 in Ha on May 11
To my eye the mono positive photo seems to have the best contrast. But it seems no one cares about mono (when I post the photo anywhere but Solarchat). So colourized is kinda mandatoryEGRAY_OBSERVATORY wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 1:59 pm Hi Minh,

Re: AR12822 in Ha on May 11
Yes I understand what you mean, but here on SolarChat, many of us have very discerning-eyes and like to pick-up on fine detail which shows between the coloured and non-coloured versions.
Obviously bearing in mind the use of mono-cameras, the coloured versions often shown here, are of course of the artists taste - and we see many variations of the artistes ideas, which is fabulous and interesting...
Cheers

Yep, My eye still does not have the ability to see the fine differences between the images. It'll take time, I guess. I am honored this chosen as SPOD for todayEGRAY_OBSERVATORY wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 2:14 pm Yes I understand what you mean, but here on SolarChat, many of us have very discerning-eyes and like to pick-up on fine detail which shows between the coloured and non-coloured versions.

Re: AR12822 in Ha on May 11
Indeed Minh that's a well earned SPOD, so well done.
And you say, "Yep, My eye still does not have the ability to see the fine differences between the images ", well if anything like me, I'm down to just the one good eye, whilst the other is now totally blurred for computer screen, except for the large screens in the observatory.
Am awaiting an optic appointment for a likely Cataract change...
Cheers and have a good night

Well done, Minh, congrats!
I like the way you do processing monochrome, but be careful with that Topaz SharpenAI. Keep it balanced before ARTifacts appear.
best regards
Leo

The close up is a few post down from the OP.StarHugger wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 11:55 pm The amount of fine detail when closely examined remains as sharp as when viewed as a whole, very nice indeed. Congrats on the SPOD but maybe they should post a close up of the image instead.

Re: AR12822 in Ha on May 11
I tried to upscale the image with topaz tool and the amount of detail is just mind numbling. But I think this counts more toward an artwork rather than a astrophoto. But it sure does look cool ain't it?StarHugger wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 11:55 pm The amount of fine detail when closely examined remains as sharp as when viewed as a whole, very nice indeed. Stunning detail! Your seeing conditions must be incredibly good.
Do you image from within a city or a rural location?
Congratulations on your captures and your skills at processing!

Re: AR12822 in Ha on May 11
Thanks.
I capture it from my rooftop observatory in center of a megacity (Hanoi, Vietnam's capital). The seeing is not so good since I shoot through concretes building and galvanized metal sheet roof and ambient temperature is very hot (+40* C). I'd rate my seeing as 5-6/10. 90% of this coming from processing. The sharpening and upscaling tool (Topaz tools) work extremely well but since they are "AI tool" and sharpening/enlarging using machine learning, I think a lot of these detail coming from the software itself. So not very scientific and more of an artwork. But interesting nevertheless.
