Sometimes Jozef, I can't believe that a good Quark such things can do.
All of that it is a great entry level filter that give a lot of people the chance to do Ha solar observation or imaging with not to much money.

Yes, it really is. Most of the time write the Guys about the quark that it's no good ... I think people can't handle it. It is really a excellent h-alpha filter. The costs are manageable considering what similar filters otherwise cost and rarely deliver such good results.

It would be interesting to compare the photos taken with Quark with the photos you take with your main filter. It seems to be Solar spectrum 0.3A?

I thought so and yesterday recorded everything first with SolarSpectrum and then with Quark. Even both in off-band.
I was on the phone with a colleague and cleaned up the recording disc. So distracted, I overlooked the fact that I also deleted the folder with the finished total images .....
Well after that I had significantly worse seeing and I could only create the three images above with the quark. With the AR2822 at the end, the seeing was really bad ..... to create the colored AR, that's enough.

The difference between the two H-alpha filter is clearly noticeable in the angstrom. Since SolarSpectrum with 0.3À always shows a very dense chromosphere, the quark with 0.5À is more transparent. When I open my telescope to f6 the quark is already clearly in the off-band and thus generates H-alpha in the Doppler effect. The SolarSpectrum is still tight on the chromosphere at f6!
For me, the Quark has an advantage over the SolarSpectrum, since it has 0.5À, it is better for protuberances at the edge. The SolarSpectrum is here also much more dense, sometimes hardly sees fain protuberances rich in light ....



In my experience, these are the differences between the two.

No, I can't grind something like that myself ...
I bought the lens from ISTAR USA, so I was able to build the solarscope close to my imagination.

I hear a lot on how bad Quarks are but I also see a lot of great images taken by them. As long as DayStar will honor their warranty they are worth the risk in my opinion. Not everyone has the money to buy a Solar Spectrum or Quantum filter.
