May 26 2021 Observations.
Session time is 15:14 to 16:00 UTC. The skies are partly cloudy with fair seeing. The temperature is 82F.
Coronado SolarMax II 60DS. 16x, 21.5x and 33x ( Ha )
I can see three plages on the solar disc. AR12825 in the NE is quite faint but visible. AR12824 is easily seen in the NW. I can see three spots, a dimming plage and two filaments. One filament in the SE part of the system and the other trails off to the NE. West of AR12824 I can see AR12826 which has really grown in the last 24 hours! It's bright and easy to see and the spots can be seen within the plage structure.
Elsewhere on the disc I can see a nice large dark filament in the SE stretching inward and away from the limb. I can see a couple more westward in the SW. I can also see a filament well NE of AR12824 and another east of it between it and AR12825.
I see a group of three small proms in the SE and a tall thin one in the NE. The NW shows a larger prom with a dark space bottom-center.
The mottles are seen without difficulty today.
Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 21.5x and 54x ( WL )
AR12824 is still prominent and showing about a dozen spots/pores with the largest spot still showing an umbra surrounded by a penumbra. AR12826 to it's west has really grown since yesterday with it's spots/pores multiplying like rats, or rabbits! Most of the spots are fused together in what appears to be a long penumbra common to all of them. The group has a very embryonic shape with the biggest spot being the head. It's the Sun-Child group! Earlier on images were showing it to be more of a horseshoe shape. I never could get an accurate count of them. I can see some faculae associated with AR12826. I can also see some faculae in the SW. I can see nothing of AR12825 in continuum.
I hear birdsong today!
Carpe Lumen!

Thanks James, this new activity is a promising sign of things to come, glad you got a view. I'm hopeful of a 6am session in the morning, hoping the weather behaves as forecast...

Thank you James for a well-worded (multiplying like rats, or rabbits !) & (embryonic shape with the biggest spot being the head) giving a definitive- identification to what's been happening today.
Cheers

Re: May 26 2021 Observations.
James, great report. I read it yesterday but was unable to write a comment.
Some of what you saw, I also observed on a laptop screen.
You very succinctly described the form AR12826, in white light this group also reminded me of an embryo.
I enjoyed the forgiveness. Thank you.
Ivan

Re: May 26 2021 Observations.
Exactly. I thought about the same yesterday. It is a pity that they are leaving, but I hope there will be new ones soon.DeepSolar64 wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 5:02 amIvan wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 7:19 pm James, great report. I read it yesterday but was unable to write a comment.

Re: May 26 2021 Observations.
Hopefully we will see some new active regions soon. It should get better as we depart further from solar minimum.
