May 27 2021 Observations. WL only.
Session time is 15:00 to 16:00 UTC ( Intermittent ). The skies are mostly cloudy and the seeing is certainly below average. The temperature is 79F.
Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 24x, 36x, 54x and 71.5x ( WL )
I can see AR12826 very close to the NW limb with AR12824 trailing a short way behind to it's east. I can count 10 spots/pores in AR12824 but never could get a good count in it's western neighbor. I can see faculae around both spot groups. Though I can see several of the spots have penumbrae in these groups, seeing is not good enough to get a really good look at them.
I can see a single pore in AR12825. Surprisingly I can barely detect the faculae to the system early in the session before the seeing rapidly worsened. I think it effects the granulation field and I could see that.
I can see some low contrast faculae in the SW quadrant and a small patch in the far east not far off the limb.
Granulation can be seen at the beginning of the session but is practically invisible at sessions end an hour later.
I did get a single iPhone image of the WL disc today.
Carpe Lumen!

Thanks James for your latest report.
Shame your iPhone image missed the relevant two AR's, but still another day, before we lose-out to the "cliff edge"...
Cheers

forgot to add that the iPhone camera did not do a bad job. Sometimes a quick shot is the way to go.

Terry,
You can easily see the active regions in the west if you left click on them in your browser which shows it bigger or save it to your hard drive where you can view it full size. The penumbrae around the spots are easily seen.
And sadly they will be gone soon.

Re: May 27 2021 Observations. WL only.
Thanks James. I believe that as my observatory large screens are square, that I have to go down to a bottom-slide-bar and move it across to effectively see all of the images (and not just yours).
The oblong-laptop screens do not have that problem. - indoors...
And I don't have room in the observatory for two of those oblong-screens as I need the large and hi-res screens for more accurate focusing. processing and comfort with or without those "things that hang on ears - to help the eye-balls" especially as one of mine is quite poorly - until i can get it sorted when this virus thingy has disappeared...
Cheers

Re: May 27 2021 Observations. WL only.
Though they won't compete with a monochrome video camera designed for astrophotography a smartphone can do remarkably well. It CAN photograph sunspots and prominences quite well when placed behind the eyepiece of a telescope. And for me it is certainly quicker than a full scale imaging setup and the iPhone is with me everywhere I go. I would certainly encourage it's use among members here.

That's a cracking iPhone image James and I loved the report just a pity you didn't catch an amazing new active region just blossoming in the east, so that this coming weekend I have something to look at
