Hi All,
Another decent day for imaging even through thin clouds and haze this morning. No proms, just ARs.

Hi Phil,
So well done on your excellent captures showing so much detail of these two AR's before the dive over the edge.
Cheers

Spectacular images, Phil.
What continuum wavelength are you using for the white light images?
How far detuned is your H alpha image (2nd from the bottom)?
Cheers.

Peter,
The continuum image was using the unheated etalon so I assume a wavelength of approximately 656nm.
Great observation. To my untrained eye I had not noticed the differences other than processing variations. Etalon temperature was not intentionally changed. During the 13 min. between shots, a focal reducer was added and I had to wait for gaps in the clouds. Maybe that had an effect.
What is your estimation of wavelength shift?
Phil

Hi Phil.
I will try the unheated etalon on my next imaging session. It’s a great result.
The off-band H alpha looks like a ~0.5 angstrom detuning. If the etalon was cooling this would be to the blue.
Cheers.

Just amazing Phil!!!
You get so much definition despite the fact that the areas are close to the edge!
And there is also so much 3D impression on your two last Ha. How do you achieve this?
Is the focal reducer that makes the miracle? (apart your experience) What is your train for the last two photos?
best wishes,
Alexandros

Hi Alexandros, and thanks.
No secret ingredients, just focus well, stack, and I use Imppg for the main processing and usually a quick descreening in an image processing program.
Maybe some level or curve adjustments, crop out the edge artifacts, that’s about it. Good luck.
Phil

Re: May 27, 2021 AR12824, 12826 WL and Ha
Hi Phil.
Actually your detuning might be smaller. I was thinking in terms of my filter which has a 0.6 angstrom bandpass. I think your filter is narrower? So, it might be a shift on the order of your bandpass.
Cheers.

Peter,
The filter is speced at 0.3A. I’m not sure exactly what I get from it but at about 1angstrom per 9°C, I’ll try a 3° change.

Thanks again for the kind words.
Alexandra, the filter I'm using is a Solar Spectrum, Solar Observer SO-1.5 0.3ang. 25mm aperture. It's nice but still needs flats.
