Cak and WL 28-05-2021

Post by Martin_S »

Today was a day of mixed results. I tested a 5x GSO barlow that I bought last week, it was rubbish , it had a large central reflection that I could not eliminate, so it's going back to the supplier. Next I dropped my Skywatcher Synscan hand controller and it stopped working. So I opened it up and lo and behold it has a Celestron control board inside, I managed to get it working again but only had time for a few images before the atmosphere started to boil. Here are the results.

Well-nice images Martin and lucky the HBX is back working. Not surprised that the PCB is Celestron, but the programming may be down to SW.. :o

Cheers

Nice images, Martin. If I am not mistaken, SW and Celestron are part of a large Chinese company.

Great images Martin :bow :hamster:

Have you tried adding extra space with the 5x Barlow? My Televue 2.5x Powermate had a terrible reflection in the middle for anything solar. Alfred kindly told me a fix, I had to add an extra 4cm gap between it and the camera chip and it worked, no reflection. However with a Barlow this may change the mag power?

Thank you for for your suggestion Alexandra, I did a forum search as I did read that thread a while back, the only thing is it gave too many results with the term Barlow. I will certainly give it a try.

Alexandra, it worked, I did have to experiment with a few spacings and insert a small .5 focal reducer in the image train. Here is a test image.
The viewing was terrible today. At least I know I can get a close up of sun spots when the viewing is better.

Looks good, Martin.

Glad to hear you managed to fix the reflection in the barlow. That's a fairly common thing it seems, same thing going on with my 2.5x powermate in some configurations (easily fixable by inducing a minor tilt though).
