2021-05-29 - Just in time to catch AR (HA/WL)

Post by JochenM »

After about a month of the worst type of weather imaginable (rain, cold, storms,...), it all of a sudden switched overnight (literally). A nice sunny day today with enjoyable temperatures (what you would expect spring to be). Just in time to get a quick look at the earth facing AR's before they rotate out of view.

Seeing was mediocre at best, but made the most of it (and honestly, happy enough to finally be able to do something again).

Setup:

HA: 80ED, Quark Chromosphere, Baader 35nm H-Alpha, IMX174
WL: 80ED @ f/25, Baader Herschel Wedge, Baader Solar Continuum, IMX174

Thanks for looking!

Excellent captures in spite of the weather, Jochen. Glad you got some sun finally... it is raining here all Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks Franco.

Nice images Jochen! All look really good. If you would have panned to the east you would have gotten a new developing region.

I actually did image it (I had the impression it developed quite significantly during my session), but felt that it didn't come out all that great; so haven't included it. Maybe I'm being too hard on myself. I'll include them below anyway :)

Great details! I can empathize with long streaks without opportunity to view/image, I've had them before when living in the pacific northwest of the US, and they can be so frustrating. I'll just say that area isn't the best place to have an astronomy hobby:)
