May 29 2021 Observations. New NE spot group! WL only.
Session time is from 14:30 to 15:00 UTC. The skies are mostly cloudy threatening rain. Low grey clouds under an almost overcast higher cloud deck. The seeing is about average. Fair. The temperature is 68F.
Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 23.5x, 47x, and 71.5x ( WL )
I can see AR12824 in the NW very close to the solar limb. AR12826 has now passed beyond it out of sight. AR12824 appears as two large spots close together inclined at a considerable angle. It's surrounded by a sizeable network of bright easy faculae. I can see AR12825 to the east of AR12824. It shows a single pore and I can faintly see the elongated faculae associated with it. I also spy a tiny spot of faculae SE of AR12824.
I see a new spot group in the east!! This could be a new emerging active that we are all hoping for! I see it as one tiny spot with two smaller pores nearby. SDO HMI continuum shows a 4th pore that I cannot see. I can also faintly see the facula to this system as well. Hopefully this system will grow in size.
Though I did not attempt Ha today, GONG Cerro Tololo shows an elongated plage in the SE that could be also be a sign of something new developing there.
The Altair Herschel wedge proved it's worth today. It's controllable brightness helped me penetrate the high thin cloud deck. I would have been confined to very low magnifications, below 30x, if I would have used the Orion70 which has a glass filter.
Carpe Lumen!
James

The developing AR in the east shows up strongly in the SDOAIA304 instrument.

Re: May 29 2021 Observations. New NE spot group! WL only.
Oh yes James, thanks fore the latest update on the newbie.
Unfortunately earlier today, the cloud-layer was the only time that was available for any imaging, prevented that.
So maybe I might still get a view and image in the next hour or so.
Thanks for the update and images and just shows how these AR's can just suddenly spring-up on our-side of the disk

Hi James
Good observations and a good setup.
We have rains and the Sun is tightly covered with clouds.
I would very much like your forecast of a new active region to come true.

Thanks for the report James. I too saw the new area, hopefully it will develop into a nice active region. Thanks for sharing.

Oooh! is that just for me we have a sunny day tomorrow it looks really bright so it should be a new emerging region thanks James for giving me my wish

Nice report, James.
With the weather getting better here; lets hope it develops into something nice.

Re: May 29 2021 Observations. New NE spot group! WL only.
Look at it now! It's developed quite a bit in the last 10 hours and the southeastern plage I mentioned in my observation has now developed pores!
