29.05.2021 New rosette AR in NE

Post by Rusted »

The seeing is still rubbish today.
I have been chopping my main tube and playing with etalon spacing for more even lighting.

The weird AR in the NE reminds me of a rose or rosette. Or a vaccination scar? :D
Best I can manage, so far, as the sun sinks towards the trees:

Congratulations of the Ha capture of the new region. I just visually observed it in white light. I saw three tiny spots.

Thanks. :bow

This weird AR seems to be far too bright. Perhaps I'm simply off band?
I can't tame it despite turning the gain right down in SharpCap and then ImPPG.
My background is almost invisibly dark yet the AR is like a Celtic knot of bright white flares.
I have been chopping my scope and altering the PST etalon spacing and extensions.

Hi Rusted

I don't think it's your tuning the active region is very bright and has developed very quickly, nothing there a few hours ago.
I don't know what it is doing at the moment as I am clouded out, it may actually be building up to flaring fingers crossed.

Thanks Rod.

Here's an image from an hour later:
You can see how dark I made the background to avoid "over exposure" of the AR detail.

And another, using the 2.6x GPC for more scale as the late seeing improves.

Looking at GONG its brightest was about 3:15 UT so about right, calming down now, sadly.
