Re: SECOND GO 30/5/2021
Looks over processed to me. A little info of what camera, capture software, etc, would help us give you some guidance. Is it single stack or double? I've added two images from my double stack 60mm lunt for comparison of what your looking for. I'm far from being an expert.

I agree with Nigella, its a great start but we can all help you move forward. Can you give us a stepwise account of what you are doing

I'm a visual observer new to imaging. I'll help if I can. I use SharpCap for acquisition, AviStack for stacking and sharpening and GIMP for finishing editing/processing.
I image with a ZWO ASI178MM monochrome camera most of the time but do occasionally use my iPhone and Nikon D3500 DSLR as well.

Re: SECOND GO 30/5/2021
how many frame did you take and how many stacked? Base on your file name I can see you are using laplace quality estimator in AS3!. try untick the Laplace in quality estimator and use gradient estimator, I find it work better for solar.p1taylor wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 8:39 pm Hi I am using a Lunt 60mm h-alpha single stack. zwo asi 178mm camera, programmes imppg, Photoshop, autostakkert3, sharpcap 3.2, registax 6, +the images I did on the 30/5/2021.

First, your images looks out of focus, try refocus better. When the focus is off, there're no detail in the stacked image and every effort to bring out detail where there're none will only push the noise up. Secondly I assume your flats were taken with the defocus method? If it's so then you are taking the flat wrong. Defocus method won't work with full disk imaging. You need a flat cap or a diffuser.
https://youtu.be/-zD4EIGBess?t=566 Here is a tutorial of how to focus, capture and process a solar Ha image with some very good advice on focusing. this is a very good place to learn about capturing and processing for beginner. I started out from here too.

Re: SECOND GO 30/5/2021
Focus and tuning seem to be the main issues here. My advice would be to check out GONG Ha images, or others on Solarchat, first thing so you know how the Sun should appear on the morning of yous session. Then tune/focus to see much the same view and make your recordings for processing. Single etalon images will lack some contrast, but you should see enough detail to be sure that everything is set optimally. As the saying goes, garbage in, garbage out, so this is a critical step to success.

Re: SECOND GO 30/5/2021
Hi James, Carbon60, Thanks very much for your comments, Minhlead did 100 frames and staked 5%, no not defocus did it with the one that slides over front of scope with plastic din sheet on, thanks for your comments.

Re: SECOND GO 30/5/2021
Try to re-focus and re-tune. Also 100 frames with 5% stacked means only 5 frames stacked which is extremely little. It affect your snr and bitdepth.
Try something like 2000 frames and stack 10% of them.

Re: SECOND GO 30/5/2021
Yep, definitely focus issue and uneven illumination because of tuning issue. Hopefully that will sort it out if you get those thing's out.

Re: SECOND GO 30/5/2021
Hi Montana, That tutorial on how to focus is very good will defiantly do that, is there a way to now when presser tuner is set right, thanks very much for your help.

Re: SECOND GO 30/5/2021
When I'm tuning I overexpose slightly so I can see if the tuning is centred. Once I get it centered I cut down the gain. With focus sorted you should see surface details. Next adjust the pressure tuner slightly in or out to get on band. You might need to recenter tuning by using the gain again to get the bright spot. It takes practice but becomes second nature in the end.
