The rapid evolution of AR12824-AR12826
Dear all,
The last ten days gave us all so much excitement with the evolving active regions of the north hemisphere. Imagine how much was my own enthousiasm, since this was my first time to observe and record such events.
After two clowdy days, I finally had some time to create composite B&W and colour photos showing the evolution of AR12824-AR12826 in WL (Blue wing of H-alpha) and H-alpha between 23 and 27 May 2021. Lunt130MT.
Hopy you will like them. AR12826 appeared out of nothing (as always ) and evolved to a big spot and then its companion was formed so fast!!! Is there any chance they stay alive until they re-appear, or it is to early to observe long-living active areas? Perhaps many of you who lived previous solar cycles are used to such phenomena. Hope much more is ahead of us for a couple of years, if I judge from some amazing photos from the cycle we left behind us.
Anyway, for me these composite photos are a nice goodbuy from my part to the beloved AR12824-AR12826.
Best wishes,
Alexandros

Thanks a lot Marty and Alan!
Here is another one from AR 12824 on 23 and 24 May 2021... (Lunt130MT + Barlow x2 for the right photos)

Impressive contrasts and details. I can imagine how exciting it was to get this results for the first time. Thanks for sharing, Alexandros.

Hi Alexandros
Excellent report, excellently shown evolution. Excellent processing, I really enjoyed it, thanks.

Re: The rapid evolution of AR12824-AR12826
It is sometimes amazing how fast these region appear and it is great to have several days to watch them evolve. These two regions are fairly large and active so I bet you in 2 weeks time we will see them reappear around the east limb. They will be given a different number, but if you mark 2 weeks in your diary I guarantee they will be back in some shape or form

Re: The rapid evolution of AR12824-AR12826
Thanks a lot James, Stephen, Ivan, Alexandra and all for your kind comments!
I am glad you liked the comparison.
@Alexandra: I appreciate your comment regarding the lifetime expectancy of the two active regions. Let's bet! ;-)
They should be expected by the 11th or 12th of June, so let's see if just one of them or both will honor us once more! :-)
They should be at the same latitude I suppose, from what I have read so far.
My wish is made! :-)
All the best,
Alexandros

Re: The rapid evolution of AR12824-AR12826
Many thanks Stuart!
Wish you and all of us to have many weeks like the past one and with clear skies during summer (for the 'northers'), so that we can go on tracking active areas!

Thnaks a lot Jochen and Franco!
Yes, I could not stop capturing, selecting, processing and filling/emptying disks... ;-)
As most of us do.
And all my (professional) work stayed behind...
24 hours are never enough in this life ;-)

Re: The rapid evolution of AR12824-AR12826
Thanks a lot Marc and Raffaello!
Yes I am very very happy with the new Lunt130MT. I think it is a fantastic tool and still have not used it at night neither I have explored well all its capabilities in solar. The only problem the haze in one frontal lens. According to Lunt (and this should be the truth) it was created during the travel from the US here... And they propose me to open the scope and clean the lens, which sounds really scary with my zero experience on this...
viewtopic.php?p=294029#p294029
I will send an independent post asap to aks for advice from our group.
Raffaello, I was surprised by the quality and magnification in your recent post! Hope you will answer my question there.
Best wishes,
Alexandros
