June 1 2021 Observations. WL only.
Session time is 13:00 to 13:10 UTC. The skies are almost overcast. The seeing seems to be decent. The temperature is 61F. I don't have much time to observe since I am heading up to my daughter's in Weaverville before work but tried to make time for a quick white light view of the Sun. Clouds didn't help. I'll take my 8x32 Lunt SUNoculars with me in case I have a chance for a quick view when I am out.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x ( WL )
I can see the spot group of AR12827 approaching the longitudinal central meridian in the northern hemisphere. I see 5 spots/pores, maybe 6. The biggest spot has grown since yesterday and even at 25x shows it's penumbra around a darker umbra. A second umbra, or embedded spot shares the penumbra with the larger one. The smaller umbral spot is located NE of the larger one. The big spot is at the SW end of the group. Trailing off from it I see 4 other small spots/pores trailing off NE in a tail that curves SE. The SDOHMI continuum image shows a few more pores making the group look like a male gamete with the sun itself being the ovum. And I talked about AR12826 resembling a Sun-Child embryo last week! A friend of mine read it and told me my inner-nerd was coming out! .
I can see a bright faculae with a dark embedded pore in it's NW part located in the SE quadrant. I can see some faculae in the NW. SDO HMIc shows a tiny embedded pore there. I cannot see it.
Off to Sarah's I go...
Carpe Diem!
James

Sounds like a nice quick session, James.
WL is definitely a good pick to observe in atm.

Re: June 1 2021 Observations. WL only.
Oh yes, inspired by the Star-Child of 2001 A Space Odyssey! But the Sun is a star so either would fit wouldn't it?

I fixed a couple of typos concerning the faculae in the SE. Being in a hurry I had it's location reversed. Duhhh....
Thanks everyone!

Re: June 1 2021 Observations. WL only.
Clouds had me today, June 2nd. I did get a very brief sighting of the sunspot of AR12827 today through my Lunt 8x32 SUNoculars.
I ended up doing yard work.

This made me laugh, you are so polite, it does look like a sperm
The sunoculars sound great for a quick observation, do you rest them on a wall or stand? I would be wobbling all over the place, but it sounded like you got a very steady view to spot all the pores and spots

Polite I try to be. When I read this you made me smile.
The Lunt 8x32 SUNoculars are good to carry along when one is in a hurry and don't have the time to set up a scope or if the weather is marginal and the sun peeks quickly from behind a cloud and you can catch it. I try to brace up against a wall or any solid stationary object for a steady view, if possible. The binoculars are small and light and at 8x magnification not too high so they are hand-holdable. Spot groups and large spots are easy with them and medium sized spots can be seen too. Small spots are a true challenge and pores, well they are too small to see.
I think a pair of solar binoculars should be in every solar observers gear for at least a quick view when there is no time for a larger instrument.
June 3 was cloudy for me. I used it for doing work outside.
