AR12827 Closeup in CaK 2nd June

Post by marktownley »

Hi Everyone,

Long time no see! Been busy these past few days, with the Bank Holiday weekend in the UK we went and stayed with some friends up in Yorkshire, lots of going walking, exploring beaches and fossil hunting, but also some opportunity for some solar with the travelling kit. Got back home late on Tuesday after seeing my parents for the first time since last October (thanks Covid) which left yesterday for some solar at home with the larger scopes. Was surprised to find I can observe from 7am using the pier in the garden, and so this gave some half decent seeing before the heat of the day built up and boiled the skies...

Took this shot of AR12827 in CaK using the 120mm at f20 (using a 2x cemax barlow) and the ZW0290mm camera.

Spent the day playing with various things i'm trying and also got to drift align the mount on the pier, save me going out in the wee hours to find polaris... Hoping I can get another look this morning in an hour or so, then off on the boat for a couple of days to make the most of the weather. When the weather breaks I should be able to catch up on here and update my website.

Hope you like!

Mark

Cracking images, Mark. Lots of lovely details in these. The pier is a great addition.

Thanks Stu! As the seeing was starting to boil as the temperature rose I switched to the 100mm Tal refractor (shot above taken with the 127mm / 1200 Bresser), same setup 2x cemax barlow and ZWO 290mm camera which seems to be a real sweet spot with f10 systems and 393nm in terms of critical sampling.

Hi Mark

Great shots, great close-ups.

I am also experiencing polar alignment issues during the day. I wonder if it is possible to write a plug-in for setting the polar axis to the Sun, even if it is not super accurate.

Hi Mark,

Glad to hear that you have enjoyed your holidays met your parents. I read that the COVID-19 situation in UK has gotten better. I got my mum to stay with me during a recent tightening in safe distancing in Singapore. We have discovered more than expected cases but situation is by and large under control.

Love your CAK images. The fibrils are so defined and the granulation so detailed. Looking forward to see more from your new setup.

Take care.

Alfred

Great CaK images, among the best I've seen so far. Grain borders are very crisp.

These are magnificent as usual Mark, I wouldn't expect anything less :hamster: :bow

I'm glad you have had a good holiday and met your parents. I had a first hug of mine since last October and I think I squeezed them to death :)

Thanks everyone! Just about to 'cast off' and go out to my sunny spot in the middle of nowhere and see what sun I can snap with the travelling kit...

Terrific captures, Mark.
Maybe the Tal results have a slight edge on crispness but both scopes give great images.
Cheers.

Thanks everyone.

The Tal results are slightly sharper than the 120mm images, I think 120mm was just pushing it with the seeing I had whereas 100mm was probably more where the seeing was actually at.

Very impressive images - both from the 120mm and the 100mm!
