June 6 2021 Observations. WL only.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

I observed on two short occasions during small breaks through a pretty much overcast cloud cover. The first look was at around 16:45 UT and the second about 18:20 UT. I had the scope set up at the ready on the back deck while I was on the other side of the house pressure washing the siding. Naturally I had to move the scope when I reached that side of the house! Solar observers must learn how to multitask! The temperature was 79 at the first view and 81 at the second. Seeing was surprisingly decent!

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see three spot-bearing active regions on the Sun today. AR12827 in the NW is nearing the limb but still shows it's well formed spot being trailed by bright faculae. I can see another patch of bright faculae just to it's north. SDO HMI sees a single pore there but I didn't notice it. I can also see another fainter patch of faculae NE of AR12827. AR12829 is visible as a group of 8 spots/pores with the largest being in the western part of the group. I can see no faculae since this system is at/near the CLM in the southern hemisphere and far from the limb. AR12828 is seen as a six-spot group in the far SE nearing the limb. Two are larger spots, one double and the other three are small pores. All are surrounded by faculae. I can also see a long patch of faculae to their SW very near the limb. SDO shows a tiny patch of faculae emerging from the NE limb but try as I might I just can't see it.

The fine solar granulation is fairly easy today.

Carpe Noctem!

James

Glad to hear you are keeping the other half happy in between sessions :) :hamster: I thought it was only us in the UK who had to pressure wash around the house and garden to remove all the green slime from everything after a winter.

Nah, I have to do pressure wash every summer and clean out the gutters too.

Well James and Alexandra, you are not the only ones to need the pressure-washer treatment, cus that is just to be another task around here too.

Just repainted the observatory walls, with the PT paving next.

Thanks James for your excellence.

Cheers
Terry

Lately I have had my share of clouds too. I think I'll be fighting them all week :-(
