June 7 2021 Observations. WL only.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is between 16:10 and 17:00 UTC, Intermittent. The skies are mostly cloudy threatening rain. The temperature is 77F and the seeing is above average.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
The sun is showing interesting detail today in white light continuum. I can see nearly all the spots that the SDO HMIc image shows in AR12829. I can count at least 10 but some are fused together One appears as three spots in contact looking like a long thin vertically oriented single spot. I can see no faculae to the system. AR12829 has now crossed the central longitudinal meridian into the SW quadrant. AR12827 is seen in the NW with a single spot very close to the limb. Bright faculae are seen trailing it. I also see a system to it's north. It also has a single larger spot as well as a visible pore just east of the spot. This system sports bright faculae as well. It's also very near the limb. Faculae are seen to it's east. To the south I see the combined systems of AR12828 and 12830. I see one larger spot sporting a penumbra preceded by two pores. Faculae are easily seen. This system(s) too is approaching the limb. The NE shows an area of scattered faculae just off the limb. Hopefully this will develop into something more.

I can see the fine solar granulation today.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Only a few months ago, we were complaining about blank disks James, but there nothing to complain about now with so many AR's and their products.

I would like to see and capture some better proms, as many have been quite shallow of late, but can't have everything (at the same time) ??

Thanks for the detailed report.

Terry

Hi James

I was pleased to read your interesting and succinct report. It's so great that you add some cute things to them, like birdsong, gardening, or a downpour. It makes them come alive and romanticizes the facts you are recording a little.

Astronomy is an experiential hobby. It's not only about what you are observing but also the feeling you get from the experience. That includes one's surroundings. In nighttime astronomy it's the sound of frogs and crickets, owls, whippoorwills. Fireflies on a summer evening. Lightning from a distant thunderstorm. The smell of the night air. Honeysuckle or jasmine on the night breeze. The sight of the milky way on a summers night. And then there is the cold still quiet nights of winter. With solar it's the birds, warm green summer days. Cats at your feet. Yep, and they do nighttime too! Blue or cumulus studded skies. I think solar observing gets one more comfortably through the seasons than nighttime astronomy does. Daytime temps are more bearable and it's nice to experience the changing seasons in such a perspective. A perspective behind a telescope!

I usually observe alone and that often heightens the experience. Alone except for the company of the Creator and the occasional cat.

It's more than the objects you observe. More than the tech. It's the experience! Get out and enjoy it!

:D James

In a way you do join me. Through this forum. It may not be quite the same as personal face to face contact and then there is the occasional Zoom meeting. Technology has it's wonders doesn't it?
