June 6th - Ha/CaK/WL

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

I have been bogged down with work demands yet again this spring, so posts have been few and I have been limited to Sundays for doing any solar work. The skies were to clear Sunday morning, but moderate cirrus cloud cover until near noon limited ability to do much good imaging. I did my full disk Ha and some CaK/WL during the limited thinner cloud intervals.

The Full disk Ha was taken with the Lunt LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha DS solar scope and an ASI174MM camera:

My hopes for clear skies were wanted to do a first light imaging session with a new scope that I received earlier in the week (new to me ;) ) I picked up an Orion 130ED, f7 OTA with the intent to be able to do solar work without giving up too much aperture in order to have a better optical system for Deep Sky imaging. It is also a bit shorter than the 150mm, f8 scope so I have more room in the observatory. I will likely try to mod this after having a few adapter made up, but that will be a summer project to do after the spring rush.

The first images were full disk WL and CaK images with the ASI1600MM camera. The WL used a Lunt solar wedge/Baader Continuum filter, and the CaK used a Lunt B1800CaK/Baader K-Line filter stack:

I added a 2.5x Powermate to the system to try for higher resolution images of the AR's, but the cloud limited the detail. Still not bad considering the conditions:

The clouds became thick enough to shut me down for an hour or so, but the skies cleared around the noon hour and I went back out to continue in Ha. I used the Daystar Quantum 0.45A filter with a 4x Powermate to do the Ha images:

Sorry for the limited commentary and some of the processing was rushed...but I wanted ot post before they became too old :o I have a few sessions that never made it online.

Thursday morning will be clear, so I hope to catch a few pics of the rising partially eclipse sun.

As always, questions and comments are always welcome.

Brian,
That's a very nice run of images in all three major lights. I hope you catch the eclipse. is is almost over at sunrise from my location and by the time it makes it above the mountains and trees where I can see it, it will be over.

Two thumbs up!

James

Thought you were very quiet Brian, but I know spring is your busiest time. Glad you are still alive and kicking and collecting some super solar pictures

Alexandra and Terry...

Thanks for the comments on the images...very much appreciated :bow

Alexandra, I have been running steady most of the daylight hours at work and not able to do any imaging with the exception of Sundays. Ironic, as we have had a lot of clear days. I expect that to change once we hit early July and field operations should be wrapping up and I hope to get a break, and the clouds will roll in again
