June 14 2021 Observations. Visual and Imaging.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is 15:30 to 17:00 UTC. Considerable cloudiness. Fair seeing. The temperature is 82F. Breezy.

Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x and 89x ( Ha )
The most obvious objects are the nice prom on the NE limb and the new AR12833 in the NE quadrant. In the scope visually I could see a humanoid figure shape within the prom. So I call it the Burning Man prominence. The Burning Man festival came to mind here, nope I have never been. Photographically the man shape doesn't seem to show up very well. I guess the added detail by the camera makes it less visible. AR12833 shows a bright plage section below the prominent spot and a fainter plage section above it. A small filament is to the south.

Elsewhere on the disc I see a small but bright plage in the NW ( AR12832 ) with a couple of filaments above it. I also see a sizable disturbed region in the SE that has three thin but not hard to see filaments. I see a fourth near the SE limb. Two tiny but visible plages lie north of this disturbed area. The north-central part of the disc shows a small filament.

Outside of the aforementioned prominence on the NE limb I see others. A hook shaped one on the NW limb and another group on the SW limb. There are also others, fainter ones on the SE limb.

The mottles show up very well today and hint finer detail. I can also see the spicule layer on the limb.

I did image today. I did 4 but only two turned out.

Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 55x and 110x ( WL )
The faculae and spot of AR12833 is easy to see in the NE. The penumbra is hinting fine detail. The spot has a well formed penumbra and umbra. I see no other spots or pores nearby.

I see two other pores on the disc. A tiny one SW of AR12833 marking where GONG shows a tiny plage. I was able to find this plage in Ha NE of the big disturbed area in the south with the 90. I also see another tiny pore in the SE within the disturbed area. I cannot see any faculae in this pore's vicinity but there is some to the east. I can also see the faculae to AR12832 in the NW. I see no pores or spots there.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Great sightings and great shots, James. We left the city for three days, I was without the Internet, so I read and looked with great pleasure.

Very enjoyed the report, especially the burning man. I think I have only seen that on a Simpsons episode :)

The big spot looks good in WL.

Finally, superb imaging :bow :hamster:

The Simpson's. I am sure they massacred that. South Park would have been worse!
