Just saying Hello Solarchat

Post by rsfoto »

Hi Girls and Guys,

Just saying Hello. Still here reading daily the forum but no Sun imaging has been possible

Day after day clouds. A lot of clouds and so no roof opening.

The worst part is the fact that it does not even rain, if at least it would rain that would be good but no ... just no rain.

So wish you all a good weekend and hopefully one of this days the Sun shines again

Thanks

Rainer

Hi Rainer

Glad to hear from you, or rather read you. The clouds will go away, and with them the sadness.

I do wish you CLEAR SKIES and a good weekend though.

Hi Rainer...

Sorry to hear the clouds have interfered with your observing and imaging. Your FD images are always excellent...patiently awaiting to see them again.

Hi Rainer,

I feel your pain….days/weeks of cloud are a common occurrence here in the UK. Hopefully the Sun will break through for you sometime soon.

Hi everybody,

Thanks and yes someday the Sun will shine again and in the meantime I started a new project called Blitzortung. You can find it here

https://www.blitzortung.org/en/cover_your_area.php

Unfortunately there is a waiting list for the hardware electronics. Already built two Loop antennas and I am testing them.

Having just read through the "Blitzortung" links Rainer, it certainly sounds an interesting and useful project.

I already use a web-link to see the areas of lightning-activity, as the need to protect my various aerials and radio's is necessary, as I did have a strike many years ago with one radio destroyed and the telephone system too..

I have assembled many projects over many years and do have numerous of the components required, but would now prefer to purchase completed units, as other projects and Solar take-up most of my time now... Also I usually use an HF radio to hear the intensity of lightning-strikes...

Thanks for the links

Regards
Terry

Hi Rainer,

Sorry to hear of your overcast situation.
Though tempting lightning, your way, is easier with kites flown on wire. Don't do it! ;)

We had the longest, coldest and darkest spring this year.
It was so bad I started building another observatory. :D

A hello from me to everyone too... It's super busy for me at work at the moment, in fact my life seems to be work, sleep, work ad infinitum... Just not had the time to get on here as I like too. This silly work cycle should be coming to an end soon - it's exam season and with covid the whole system is totally different to the norm.

In other news the blocking filter on my Quark failed spectacularly over the past couple of weeks, each day exposure time was getting longer. Currently dealing with Quantum Design, Andovers agent in the UK and a replacement blocker should be with me in a couple of 3 weeks. There was no way my 'good' quark was going back to Daystar :D

Hope to be back on here soon...

Mark

Hi Girls and Guys,

You will not believe. Still couded out. :(

Well, in the meantime I managed to finish two new projects. One is the Blitzortung

https://www.blitzortung.org/en/live_lightning_maps.php

I was lucky enough to get a used station from Canada which arrived on Monday 12th of July at my home and installed it these days. It is up and running and you can see the results here

https://map.blitzortung.org/statistic_0 ... nsparent=1

The second project was a vibration sensor for astronomical mounts. Here I still need to develop the PCB in order to make it portable. Attached some images of the breadboard assembly. Also some screenshots of the oscilloscope measuring the vibration of a wall mounted loudspeaker.

Thanks for dropping by ... :P

It's a long time since I last used one of my breadboards Rainer, but I am about to get the Oscilloscope out for a project. Good to see you are keeping busy on the electronics-side and certainly the lightning-detector project will be useful.

I have just reviewed the website and it is now on my weather-forecasting/actual list, in order to protect my radio-station and the "aerial-farm" - as best as possible... I have had a hit in the past, with one transceiver being destroyed...!!

I suppose the vibration-sensor would be useful - if the road-traffic was bad-enough to affect my four-poster stand, but I'm not aware of any problem at present...

Best Wishes
Terry
