High res AR2833 in Ha. Feedback?
I'm finally getting some time to work out issues with a sagging focuser, dialing in the etalon band, and work on my processing skills.
These were done with a 102 f/10 achromat, a SS .3A etalon, Baader 4x telecentric, and an ASI174. Processing was with Autostakkert, IMPPG, and GIMP.
Seeing was very good. All frames were at <1" seeing.
I'd love some suggestions and feedback.

Hi David.
These are really quite excellent. I think the third image is slightly more off-band than the other two. To me, the photospheric granulation is more visible in this one.

I've just realized in the last few days that we can get excellent seeing, it is just earlier in the morning than I have thought to check.
I'm open to hearing peoples opinions of the processing, even just matters of taste.

These are excellent images. What make is your 102mm F10 achro? I have a 102 F10 achro also. Mine is made by Celestron. It's of course a Synta scope.

Excellent images!
You must have much better seeing than I ever enjoy to be able to use a 4x Telecentric.
I can only use a 2x Barlow on my 150mm f/10 in very rare, seeing conditions. It's not the lens. It's the seeing.
I have found a quick and dirty check for over-sharpening is to zoom in on an image. [i.e. Enlarge it with CTRL +]
When the sun becomes "dotty" the processing has gone too far. Your last three images show this "dottiness." The first two do not.
The monitor you use for processing can have a large effect on published images.
I use a hi res AOC in the observatory from an even higher res laptop for processing on the fly.
Then, when I post my images online they often appear muddy, dull and soft on a normal PC monitor.
So I tend to over-process just them to make them more "lively" when seen online.

Can you say more about your workflow? Do you use flats? How many frames did you capture? Duration of each AVI? % stacked….etc

Again an ASI174 was used at f/40.
So these are 30 sec of capture in 8 bit with 160 fps with a shutter speed of 4.1 ms. No gamma in capture.
About 20 flat frames are applied in Firecapture.
In Autostakkert "Noise Robust" was set at about 3. I am always uncertain with this setting. AP size was 48 creating 3141 points.
Most are about 100 frames stacked from the 4800 total.
In IMPPG. Both LR Deconv and Unsharp masking used. Sigma was about 2.0 The tone curve editor was used for the 4th image down, not on the others.
In GIMP I messed with lots of things. Shadows, Brightness Contrast, White Point, Input color levels
I get Newtons rings when I don't use flats, but that seems to be related to sag in the imaging train/ focuser. I do have a tilt adjuster.

Hello David,
Just wondering ... it seems there is a dark patch on the 1st and 2nd BW images. On the 2nd image, it is right on the sunspot. Do you think it is some kind of processing artefact ?
What method do you use for taking flats ?
BTW, you might try AP size 32 pixels, just for a test.

Christian. I applied flats in Autostakkert using defocus with the same gain settings. 20 frames.
I really have not the slightest idea what caused the big shadows. They are in all these images. I’ll see what happens when I reduce the alignment point size.
