111 minutes animation of AR12833 - Penumbral waves and Ellerman bombs? 19 June 2021

Post by H-Alpha »

Dear all,

Today I tried a longer animation. The goal was 3 hours, but clouds that came from nowhere decided otherwise, so the goal remains alive for another day. ;-) I could go up to 111 minutes, almost 2 hours. Although our friend Minh explained this a couple of days before, I had to take my lesson in practice! After about 45 min I was already out of focus because of temperature change... Fortunately I realized that and corrected focus later, but part of the animation is not as clear as it could. However, it seems to me it is still beautiful and has useful information.

I captured the entire NW quarter of the sun with both the AR and beautiful proms. Here I cropped the capture to focus on AR12833 and I may present the entire frame later. MANY penumbral waves are visible and many Ellerman bombs as well? Are they? If not what are all those flashing white points around the penumbra?

Lunt130MT masked @102 mm. 115 frames in 111 minutes. Average SSM started at 2" and dropped to 1.5".

PLEASE allow enough time for the animation to load properly. (You won't regret it ;-) )

Hope you will like it and all comments are very welcome as always! ;-)

Best wishes,
Alexandros

Alexandros,
It looks like you have clearly gotten the penumbral waves and with a close look I can see the Ellerman bombs coming and going too!

Keep at this. This is interesting stuff!!

Penumbral waves, penumbral flow, penumbral bright points (not sure if they are Ellerman bombs)….What a spectacular animation!
Keep striving for perfection!
Cheers.

This looks so very nice and there's a lot to see! I know it has not turned itself to this final animation so thank you for your great effort and sharing this!

Very well done !
Is this the original size of acquisition or have you done some resizing for posting it on the web ?

Christian this is just a crop of the original captures around the AR. I attach below one frame of the original work. I am really desperate because I wish to upload the full size animation, which is interesting, but it is 135Mb. I spent all the day looking for ways to make it smaller and as m4v file it becomes just 9Mb. The problem then is that it does not loop... I just created a flicker account to upload my results there, but just realized that flicker does not play the gifs! :-(

I can reconvert m4v files of my large animations and then resize and compress them as gifs, but then they loose a lot of their details and information...

Any idea on what to do without overloading the chat is very welcome!!!

Alexandros, Flickr does play the gifs but not on the preview pane. You have to go to 'view all sizes' and click 'original'. Same to display here, when you obtain the BB code pick 'original'
