June 22 2021 WL Only

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 16:15 to 16:45 UTC. The skies are cloudy with rain in the area. I peered through a layer of thin clouds to observe today. The seeing seems decent and the temperature is 70F.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
The sunspot of AR12833 in the NW is by far the easiest object to see on the disc. It's penumbra and central umbra are easily seen. I can see a single pore north of the spot. SDOHMI continuum images show a second pore. I could not see it.

I can see faculae around AR12833 faintly. I can also see some low contrast faculae in the SW near the limb. The NE shows a couple of new faculae very near the limb. I hope these bring new activity.

I can see the fine granulation of the solar photosphere today.

Carpe Diem!

James

Nice report James, the eastern limb seems to hold some promise. I'm hoping for a session before work tomorrow.

James, you are great, such consistency. All I took was a photo of the sunset on my smartphone.

Ivan,
I try to be consistent. One of my goals is to monitor the Sun closely through all of Solar Cycle 25 and consistency matters to get good data coverage, whether visual and/or imaging. Even on days I cannot observe due to clouds, etc I save image files from that day from the SDO and GONG network. In that way I never miss a day!

Mostly clouds again today. I'll see what I can do. Probably white light again. Maybe....
