July 16 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:07 until 16:13 UTC. The skies are partly cloudy. Seeing is below average. The temperature is 81F ( 27.2C ).

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x and 33x ( Ha )
Today takes close scrutiny of the disc to pick out the details shown on the GONG Big Bear and Cerro Tololo images. I can see 6 plage disturbances on the disc. AR12842 is nearing the CLM in the north. Another plage lies to it's SE and yet another lies to it's west. In the SW lies AR12843 nearing the limb and to it's east, AR12841. I see a new plage almost on the SE limb!

Filaments are easy to see and fairly numerous. A string of filaments stretch from the easternmost of the northern hemisphere plages to the NE limb. A single small filament is almost due north of AR12842. The SE quadrant shows a fairly large fluff of a filament and I see a couple more SE of AR12841.

I can see several prominences. The NW limb shows the two best ones. They look like tattered bushes! I can also see fainter ones in the SW and SE.

The mottles cover the solar disc and are easily seen.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x, and 62.5x ( WL )
The single spot of AR12842 though small still shows a visible umbra and penumbra. I see no other spots or pores in the vicinity. I cannot see any evidence of faculae either. AR12843 in the SW shows 4 pores surrounded by faculae. The two larger pores can be seen even at 25x but it took 62.5x to pick out the two smaller ones! The new plage in the SE shows a single spot. It's faculae lies east of it to the limb. I also see a fainter patch of faculae to it's NE.

I can see the fine solar granulation weakly.

Today's music is.

Thank you James for another excellent report of the day's offerings.

Excellent weather here today, but no time for observations or imaging.

One of the two AR's at the S.E.Limb is now numbered AR2844...

Wishing you a good weekend and excellent weather too..

Cheers
Terry

Hi James,

Very good description. It looks like you beat GONG today.
Thanks to you, I have listened to several compositions from the St. Petersburg album. And I really liked the music. I think that Sodntse and baroque music are very harmonious, however, like all the classics. Thank you.

Ivan

GONG still showed finer detail than I could see.

It's nice to see another classical listener!

James:
Thanks for the report, for me the day was sunny but with high thin clouds all over, but had a chance to get some shots.
Have a nice weekend.
Eric.
